Sketch Class

26 June 2013 -- 177/365

Providence, Rhode Island

Once again I headed downcity for some street photography at lunch for today's photo session. Along the riverfront I encountered an art class from RISD doing a series of sketches of the high rise buildings across the river. This one student was sitting apart from the class and, of all of them, had the most complete sketch on paper. Just as I started to explain the photo-a-day concept and ask if he minded being photographed, another student came running up and said, "He's going to lunch now. He's going to lunch." A bit annoyed, I simply responded, "My shutter is at 1/1000 second. I think he'll make it." The student in the photo, however, never even looked up. He ignored both of us. When I knelt to take the photo, the other intrusive student scampered off. Interestingly, the teacher that was with them never said a word.

Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, and contrast. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Longest hiatus to date...easing in by finishing up random unfinished sketches lying around the house..still very rusty

This is a drawing I did of my youngest daughter several years back. She is due for a new sketching.

A sketch of Tom Hanks.

The unlikeliest of friends growing old. (ok, I know it is sappy! Just let me have my moment.) [Blog Post]

My friend, Gail, who has motivated me to keep trying to capture faces/portraits. I didn't draw in the blow dryer she was holding to get her hair windblown.

I decided to make my generic cat into a leopon (leopard+ lion)

It is my first drawing in a new sketchbook I was gifted from one of the instructors at the art academy I model for.

This is a moleskine sketchbook, and is the nicest most heavy-duty sketchbook I've ever had. I'm going to try to put worthwhile things in it.

this is a shaded sketch, tinted with copic marker and some white colored pencil.

In the end of March there was an abnormal snowfall in Kyiv, Ukraine. The city was absolutely paralyzed for several days.

That days everyone remembered "The day after tommorow" movie :-)

In the center of the city was no cars, but a lot of snow, so the most popular "transport" was ski or snowboard :-)

I made some charcoal sketches of our "snow Apocalypse"

I haven't been to inspired lately so I went old school and drew a dinosaur. Pretty good since I probably haven't drawn one since I was in the 8th grade. This brings back memories. I think I will ink it and color it just for fun. The line is from me scanning it in 2 pieces.

This sketch is adapted from a piece I did a while ago and really wanted to capture that look again. I dig it pretty much as-is. Hopefully I get this on a wall sometime soon.
