I am revisiting my ongoing work on an ultimate Darth Vader - this time updating articulation and reworking the helmet. The helmet you see below is the older version - just wanted to show the new updated articulation. The feet come from one of the Halo figures by McFarlane toys. These will of course be "dremeled" down and resculpted. The helmet is going through a complete resculpt...and I'm talkin' complete. I work on one section, mold and cast, then a next phase. So far I've completed the mouth piece, nose and helmet plate. Once the helmet is finalized, I will cast again to begin creating a three piece using the magnets I've spoken of in an earlier entry. I will also be working on a head sculpt of Anakin (Vader).

Sculpt progress on AVA - Ex Machina - 1/12 scale. Because I'm forever curious, I decided to do some vacuum forming tests of Ava's torso, neck and skull cap. The images you see are the results. Would like to find a tighter mesh but for the tests I'm excited about the figures progression smile emoticon ‪#‎exmachina‬ ‪#‎ava‬ ‪#‎A24‬ ‪#‎robots‬ ‪#‎aliciavikander‬ ‪#‎sith_fire30‬

Sculpt update on the Alien Warrior - ALIENS - 1:18 scale. Completed the head sculpt last week, castings are coming out very nice happy to say. Now it's time to sculpt the upper torso. I sculpt from top to bottom, right to left (or vise versa) so the progress you see here will be will need to be repeated for the opposite side tonight. Helps me with perspective and proportion..and with only having a few hours work time before full cure,I can only work a little at a time. ‪#‎aliens‬ ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎warrior‬ ‪#‎xenomorph‬ ‪#‎hive‬ ‪#‎queen‬ ‪#‎sulaco‬ ‪#‎colonialmarine‬ ‪#‎sculpture‬ ‪#‎avesfixit‬ ‪#‎avesstudio‬

Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection. 1:18 scale, work in progress. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.

Finished detailing the jaw, which is a separate piece as you may be able to see in the new images. Sculpting the neck of the beast as well. At this point I am going to make whatever final revisions needed and go forward with making a mold of the head and the jaw. After a couple casts are made, I can make variants featuring the creatures different expressions, mouth open and a sculpt of the tongue.

At this point the neck will not have any articulation. If I can figure out a way to create a ball socket which the head and neck can rotate on possibly?...The only way I could see it working without jeopardizing the sculpt would be if a rubber sheath was cast for the neck and wrapped around a set of articulated joints. It's still early on so not worried about it. The solution will come.

More progress on the way with several projects #alien #newborn #sculpture #alienresurrection #miniature #sculpture #customactionfigure #nostromo #sulaco #betty #covenant #prometheus #ripley8

"The TEETH! Fix the teeth!"

I've always planned to fix the teeth but had put it off while building the rest of the figure. Realized after the last update that it was becoming more of an issue to some...and I get it believe me! So before any further updates, I chose to revise the sculpt yesterday.

Sculpt progress on the Praetorian Xenomorph (Egg Morpher) - Aliens: Defiance - 1:18 scale. A work in progress.

A little less friendly I hope? LOL! Sculpted the entire set of teeth once again along with the rim that goes above the gum line.

The Defiance Praetorian featured teeth that resembled that of the Deacon newborn from Prometheus - human teeth (very creepy) with a protruding jaw that contained the fangs. I still plan to sculpt a version that features those teeth, just not as big as the original sculpt. Variation is a beautiful thing. #alien #aliens #defiance #darkhorsecomics #praetorian #covenant #nostromo #sulaco #sculpture #aves #avesfixit #avesstudio #sculpting #customactionfigure

Completed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as seen in issue #3 of Star Wars Invasion by Dark Horse Comics. Luke is in command of Republic forces sent to the planet Rychel in order to repel the invading forces of the Yuuzhan Vong.

The figure was mostly sculpted in Aves Epoxy FIXIT sculpt using a plastic articulated armature. The forearms and hands have been recasted from original parts. The head originalted from a Legacy Snowspeeder Luke figure, casted in wax and completly retooled and refined adding additional markings to the face, age lines, a lower brow, hair and ears...I also strengthened the jaw. The figure measures 3.75" in height. Painted using Floyquil Acrylics by testors.

YES! Back to some sculpting at last! Sorry for the delay guys/gals - life put things on hold for a bit. Hurricane Irma was a beast - and my prayers and well wishes for those whose been affected by the recent storms: Harvey, Irma and now Maria...Mother Nature tends to remind us of whose in charge from time to time. Which there was a gentler way.

Continued sculpting the upper torso on the Praetorian which shares the same body as the 79 Giger alien but at a larger scale. I'll share a scale shot later to let you see the difference. The sculpt you see is quite clean...but not for long. It's an exoskeleton of a creature designed to protect the queen as well as it's hive - the body needs be roughed up a bit. Not much as I have enjoyed the details of the sculpt and don't want to loose it. Just some scratches, breaks and pop marks...nothing too heavy. Working on the piping for the back with the lower abdomen and upper arms next on the table.

More to come! #alien #defiance #darkhorsecomics #aliens #praetorian #giger #sculpting #avesstudio #FIXIT #miniature

The sculpt is based on concept work from Star Wars Galaxies. The character was never given a name from what I understand but was listed as a Mon Calamari Tech Specialist...really?...I decided a bounty hunter would be more interesting.

I completed the head a while ago and made a plastic cast out of the original sculpt.

I am taking some creative license and resculpting the lower legs and feet to fit the physiology of the species. So the boots will be bigger and a bit wider, so will the lower legs. The jetpack will be fully sculpted as well...

From the Dark Horse comic series Knights of the Old Republic, written by John Jackson Miller, comes my completed Zayne Carrick as he appeared in part four of Commencement.

Big, heavy and well worn, Zayne's suit has been sculpted and painted to appears to be a mix of woven material, leather and a lightweight metal alloy which includes a working removable helmet and PlSS (Primary Life-Support Subsystem) backpack.

Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt using Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC

Began sculpting detail to the upper torso as well as building the shape to the lower half. The main articulation point in therein body will be a ball joint just below the ribcage separating the upper/lower torso. Finer details have not been added yet - I work in stages when sculpting with epoxy since it usually only has a 4 hour cure time.

Hope you enjoy the new work in progress pics. More project updates coming soon. #alien #alienresurrection #newborn #miniature #customactionfigure #avesfixitsculpt #sculpture #ripley8 #studioadi studioADI

My 1:18 scale, 4.5" tall Furlag sculpt is complete. The head is a completly original sculpt. The figures body is also original and is sculpted over a custom created, articluated frame. I used Aves FIXIT for the sculpt and casted the head in plastic. Furlag has 14 points of articulation. Hand painted using Testors Polyscale (Floquil) acrylic paints. A very unique species in the Star Wars universe...

From Wookipedia - "Furlag was a small-time bounty hunter with large, batlike ears. Operating during the height of the Galactic Empire, he was not well-known, but often worked with other prominent bounty hunters, such as Zuckuss and 4-LOM. He, Zuckuss, and 4-LOM were subcontracted by fellow hunter Skorr on Ord Mantell during the early Galactic Civil War in the hunt for a group of prospective Rebels, then again later with 4-LOM and Zuckuss as well as several other bounty hunters including the Trandoshan Bossk to attempt to pry Han Solo's carbonite-encased body from Boba Fett."

Unfortunately Furlag underestimated Boba Fett and met his end being sucked through and open airlock shaft into deep space.

Much more detail to the head this week - also worked on the upper arms. I feel the detail is going to be enormous with this figure once completed...and with a full range of articulation? Awesome! I'm looking forward to beginning the chest cavity.

However, many revisions need to take place before I am satisfied but I feel I am heading in the right direction. All Hail FIXIT SCULPT! I couldn't do this type of detail at this scale without it!

I hope these early images show you how much effort goes into creating these figures - probably the most difficult part of building one of these is the early stages, creating a working armature that will allow the articulation I want as well as support the sculpt work I intend to apply.

The first of two semi-static posed figures of the creature from the 1979 film, Alien. Hand sculpted, hand painted. This version depicts the beast as it would have appeared in several promotional test shots during pre-production, the air duct scene where Captain Dallas met his end as well as a deleted scene appearing within the corridor while Parker and Lambert were making their desperate escape.

Figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. Articulated neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable.

Original was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two part epoxy. Parts were cast in resin and assembled to build this version. Used Model Masters Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.

I always enjoy creating alternate head sculpts for the figures I'm building...sometimes several! LOL! Just completed this one for Amanda Ripley - Alien: Isolation - 1:18 scale. Several times in the game Amanda was frightened especially during the first encounter with the Alien (poor Axel). Thought it would be appropriate to create a sculpt that reflected that. :) I hate the idea of "neutral" expressions when the alien is in the room...so disrespectful! HA HA! #alien #alienisolation #sevastopol #amandaripley #keziaburrows #sega #nostromo #sculpting

Sculpt update on an alternate torso of Parker (Yaphet Kotto ) ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. This is Parkers final stand with the alien. I plan on sculpting one more head sculpt for Yaphet to mark this scene then this figure will be ready for paint. The body armor seen here is complete! I have sculpted detail to the shoulder straps and added the chest strap . The completed shoulder armor and guard are connected by a clear band, then strapped to the under arm using a second clear band. This now gives the figure the same wide range of articulation as before.

Work in Progress on the body of Starkiller in his Arena Combat Gear - the costume mostly associated with this character in The Force Unleashed 2. Working is the upper body, abdomen, shoulders, arms and body armor.

This is my UPDATED working sculpt of the Twi'lek mandalorian from Knights of the Old Republic - I have resculpted the neck, upper torso, shoulders, waist, ammo belt, helmet and shoulder pads. There will be several lekku which will be interchangeable. Need to add additional ammo packs, holsters and blade sheaths.

The long tail of the beast - Alien: Isolation - :18 scale. Assembling and sculpting the alien from the Creative Assembly game. The tail is twice as long as the 79 beastie - just took the original tail and doubled the length. Currently it is hard plastic...hope to make a bendy tail from it soon. Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, torso, hips, knees etc.....similar to the 79 Alien I'm finishing up. Sculpting the new lower legs that are similar to the runner (dog) alien in Alien3 so it's a good introduction to what awaits me when I continue to build that particular beast. As always, I take more image than is needed - just love working with this fellow lol! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎alienisolation‬ ‪#‎creativeassembly‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎giger‬ ‪#‎xenomorph‬ ‪#‎sith_fire30‬ ‪#‎nostromo

The beginnings of the Meditiation Chamber from The Empire Strikes Back...the chair appears to be a bit too big...will reduce before adding detail. The sculpt of the seat will be worked to allow the figure to "connect" to the chair so to speak..and not roll around.
