Around 50 years ago, I used to work for Sir Clive Sinclair's company (I recently shared a picture of the C5) but the Micromatic "matchbox" radio was around from 1967. Mine dates from 1972-1975, when I was working in his accounts department!
No speaker, just listen via an earphone. I've lost the back (which means I can see the electronics) but it used to work well - particularly if placed near a phone, which would magnify the sound, especially when I was on switchboard duty: the switchboard was huge, with 200 extensions (but too modern for the old post and wire - that was my previous firm).

Designed by ecentric technology millionaire, Sir Clive Sinclair, the C5 was designed to take advantage Uk road rules. Designed to not exceed 15 mph (24km/h) and to be driven without a driver's licence.
The C5 was envisioned to help reduce inner-urban road congestion, however, certain aspects of the designed failed to meet customer requirements for weather protection, occupant crash protection and protection from the vehicluar emissions from other road users. The project also suffered from the lack of development in battery technology (still a burden to would-be electric car makers).
Perhaps a vision of the motoring future held by today's Green Lobby (so watch out!).

Sometimes feel that the far North East of Scotland is written off for landscape photographers but the light up there is so different and those vast flat landscapes are so much of a challenge. I found myself paying so much more attention to the wildlife, the bird song, which was beautiful and the distant figures working the land which remain enigmatic until you get closer.

"Sinclairs Oyster Bar" pub sign. Manchester. Thursday 15 December 2011.
I first went in this pub on Tuesday evening 10 May 1983. Between 1984 and 1989 we visited the pub often on our regular Friday / Saturday / Sunday Manchester city centre outings. At that time it was located on Shambles Square (it's second home) The historic pub was nearly destroyed in the massive IRA bomb that wiped out a large section of the city centre on Saturday morning 15 June 1996.
The pub has since been rebuilt and relocated in the new Shamles Square adjacent to The Triangle (Corn Exchange).
