"White ... is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black.... God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white."
Nothing much to show off, a simple white flower, :-)

Evening settles gently over Sea Ranch, and the lodge appears to rise from the coastal meadow as though it grew there naturally. The architecture’s weathered timber siding blends with the muted tones of grasses shaped by ocean winds, creating a visual continuity that reflects the original design philosophy of this iconic community. The sky transitions from pale blue to a deeper twilight gradient, and a small, bright moon hangs above the angular silhouette of the building, giving the scene a quiet, cinematic quality.
The structure’s geometric forms feel intentional yet understated, echoing the rugged landscape rather than competing with it. Clerestory windows, projecting rooms, and simple rooflines compose a rhythm that mirrors the horizontal sweep of the coast. In the fading light, the windows catch the last reflections of the day, glowing faintly like lanterns that offer warmth in contrast to the cool air rolling off the Pacific. It’s a reminder of how Sea Ranch architecture always balances refuge with exposure—protection with openness.
The meadow in the foreground tells its own story. Tall grasses ripple in uneven patches, carrying the imprint of seasonal cycles, wind, and wildlife. Their textures create a natural tapestry that frames the lodge from below, grounding the building firmly in its environment. Sea Ranch was conceived as a place where landscape and structure weave together, and this image captures that ethos clearly. The grass isn’t manicured or staged; it’s wild, alive, and central to the character of the place.
Looking toward the horizon, the ocean appears soft and almost pastel under the dusk light. There’s no dramatic surf here, just the suggestion of an endless expanse—an understated backdrop that makes the foreground architecture feel rooted and humble. The meeting of land, sea, and sky feels seamless. It highlights why this stretch of the California coast has inspired designers, photographers, and nature lovers for decades.
The moment portrayed feels contemplative. The absence of people amplifies the quiet presence of the building, inviting viewers to imagine themselves stepping into the frame, walking the paths, and breathing in the cool coastal air. It speaks to the spirit of Sea Ranch as a sanctuary—an intersection of modern design, environmental respect, and solitude.
The lodge stands not as an isolated object but as a participant in the landscape. The dusk light, the grasses, the Pacific horizon, and the moon above all work together to create a sense of calm that feels both designed and completely natural. It’s a scene that reflects the ideals of the community: simplicity, restraint, and a deep connection to the rhythms of land and sea.
David took us to an amazing location over looking the Barrington Tops. Such contrasts; from trees, valleys, to stark bareness. Hunter Valley workshop with David Oliver and his daughter Clare.
It was an extremely foggy morning and I had been photographing grasses up close in a field at a park. This tree was on the edge of the parking lot and as I pulled out and was driving I saw this tree from a different perspective, unencumbered by distracting wires, etc.. I was so taken by its beautiful silhouette against the foggy sky that I pulled the car over, composed my shot and waited and hoped that a bird would fly through my frame (as I saw many that morning). I chose to turn it into a black and white so the tree and the branches were really highlighted. Since this was on the edge of a parking lot I filled as much frame with the tree while still including some of the hill and a few of the background trees.
From I am the Diva (http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/2010/12/weekly-challenge-1.html) came our Weekly Challenge to create a Zentangle thinking about the idea of "Simplicity." I decided to create a very simple 'vortex' string, make a feature of nothingness (ultimate simplicity), and forgoing shading. I haven't yet decided if I will go back to it and add shading (which is why I haven't initialled it yet). I also photographed it on my Zentangle kit box - which also represents elegant simplicity to me.

Just a wall, a cable and some sun on a cold winter afternoon at the Kartause Ittingen, a monastery nearby, a place which fills me up with peace and stillness

I did this piece a while ago, but feel it sits well in 'Be Still 52'. I love these daisy type flowers, this is a gerbera that I grew in my garden last year.
