SUNFLOWER SIMPLICITY VIGNETTE

Watercolor & Inks on Yupo Synthetic Paper

One of my very favourite subjects of photography is simplicity. A few colors, maybe some textures and a couple of lines. Simple elements that come together to form something bigger than if they stand alond. Here, some basic colors like yellow, blue grey and green combine to create a simple shot that looks interesting because of the way nature decided to display them.

Of course it never hurts to wait for a cloud to break up the blue in the sky. I especially like how the hills in the background match the line of colored growth along the base of the trees. It tends to frame the main subject, the grey trees that again frame the two green trees.

This was probably the quickest little mini shoot I've ever done. Ten minutes of spontaneous self portraits captured in my garden last winter, with barely any daylight left and a rather extortionate ISO! Nonetheless, happy :] Full set

I edited this shot using Kim Klassen's texture "Awaken" for an assignment in an e-class "Beyond Layers" class by Kim Klassen. I was late getting started into the class so I kinda combined several of the classes to create this image. I am enjoying and learning so much in this class. In this assignment I was to create an image depicting six words about myself. I chose "The Simplest Things Make Me Happy" for several reasons.

1. I do love the simple things in life.

2. I love the simple things in nature like these berries.

3. I get so much joy when I learn to do something simple like adding words and texture to an image.

I haven't sewn with any Lisette patterns yet, but have been enjoying sewing with the fabrics. This is a Cynthia Rowley pattern made from Lisette poplin with prudish mods--I raised the neckline by several inches and omitted the tucked hem because it was already quite short and I wanted to wear this to church. :-)

Pity life can't be simple sometimes

simplicity is the nature of great souls

Today the 50.000th visitor came to my flickr page. I'm on flickr for half a year now, have seen many great photos and met some really talented photographers.

I think that flickr is a great place to improve your photography skills. I have learned a lot since i'm here and was inspired by many pictures.

Thank you.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci

More and more I find myself drawn into simplicity. Paring down I have learned is an art, both in one's life and in their expression; artistic or otherwise. It is not always easy, but it is necessary if one is to truly understand the beauty of subtle living.

Simplicity is being who you were meant to be.

Complication, is pretending to be something you are not.
