It's the simple things that stir my soul
And warm my heart as embers of coal.
A cardinal's pomp on a dogwood perch;
The toll of a bell that beckons to church;
A golden sky at the end of day;
A train whistle heard from miles away;
A knitted scarf to cover my head;
The smell of hay or fresh-baked bread;
Smoke that lingers low in the pines;
Berries in summer covering their vines;
Hot apple pie and a cold glass of milk;
Baby's skin that's as smooth as silk;
A wooly worm with rings of brown;
The tower clock in the center of town;
Tulips in spring; a mockingbird's call;
Things so simple, I cherish them all.

I find minimalist images to be a calming palate cleanser. I also enjoy minimalist images in a series, as a sort of holiday from distractions and the noise of life.

Lately, I've been trying to challenge myself to get good shots at average places and of average things in an attempt to force myself to be creative with composition. Without a specific subject or focal point the whole scene becomes the focus where I make the best out of an average looking place. I call this "Simple" to let the composition stand on it's own.
I think every photographer goes through the "everyday artist" stage. Believe me, this isn't it. I love taking photos but I've never really considered myself to have the "photographers eye" or at least, I've never trusted it so I'm setting myself this little task of taking simple photos in interesting ways in order to try and develop my eye.
This picture was taken in at my local coffee hideout, one place I spend allot of time.
