When isolated from the clutter of the household, simple things like a set of window blinds reveal an elegant simplicity of design.
A friend from work whipped up a batch of homemade pesto--and gave me and another lucky coworker a container full. You can't tell from the picture, but that is a very small container--it should last a long, long time. A little goes a long way with pesto, of course. And man it smells wonderful. I can't wait to use it.
I've been feeling a little lost lately. Sort of a "what am I doing/what's my next step/quarter-life crisis" thing. But I think focusing on simple lovely things is a good way to step back and give my worrisome mind a break. Seeing that tiny container of bright green freshness in my fridge does just that--for a moment, anyway.
How do you give yourself a break when things get rough?
Dopey picture of movie night. the-mendicant had requested a photo of "Joy." My joys are simple things, like eating popcorn while watching Blackadder.
While taking some photos of a house for work I couldn't ignore the view behind me. This is the view from Kinloch across Lake Taupo, NZ at sunset. Mount Ruapehu can be seen on the horizon on the left. A perfect end to a beautiful day.

I enjoy my daily walks. They are a great way to start my day, providing me with exercise and fresh air while allowing me to observe the changing scenery throughout the seasons. On a dark and overcast morning, I began my walk at the beautiful Victorian Glenwood Cemetery. However, as I rounded a corner, a sunbeam broke through the clouds and illuminated the little maple tree that had been planted this spring. It’s moments like these that I truly cherish as simple joys in life!
