An example of a sign that was translated too literally. Su and I saw this at a public bathroom on Xihu (West Lake) in Hangzhou. The ladies bathroom sign, much to Su's dismay, did not read "Female Man."
There's a sign-painter around Rochester (UK) whose handiwork is everywhere; I took numerous photos of it, in case anyone felt moved to interpret it digitally. . . .

Tiki Bar wood hawaiian sign with colorful green hibiscus flowers. Hand made, so no two are alike. Great for the tiki bar or hangout! Add a hawaiian splash of color to your hawaiian hangout! Approximately 23-24" long and approximately 5" wide.
Glas signs made by the Pootjes company. These signs used to be very popular, especially among the higher-class shops.

Interstate 405 (I-405, and colloquially referred to as "The 405" or the four-oh-five) is a major north–south Interstate Highway in Southern California. It is a bypass of Interstate 5, running along the western and southern parts of the Greater Los Angeles Area from Irvine in the south to near San Fernando in the north. The entire route is known as the northern segment of the San Diego Freeway.
I-405 is a heavily-traveled thoroughfare by commuters and freight haulers along its entire length and is the busiest and most congested freeway in the United States. The freeway's annual average daily traffic between exits 21 and 22 in Seal Beach reached 374,000 in 2008, making it the highest count in the nation. It has played a crucial role in the development of dozens of cities and suburbs along its route through the Greater Los Angeles area.
This route is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System.

Yes, that’s me!……… This is a photo the photographer took last weekend as I was signing the marriage license for my niece and nephew…… never in my wildest dream did I ever see myself performing a marriage ceremony…….or signing a valid marriage license!…….But they wanted me to marry them, and how could I refuse?! …… it was an honor to be asked to do it…….. even my Grandson asked if would do his wedding if he ever found someone who he would fall in love with and want to marry. My answer….. “of course I would, Caleb!….. if I’m still around, I’ll do it…. just don’t rush into it….” I said to my one and only 22 year old Grandson……. I’m giving my twin Granddaughters 10-12 more years before I hear them ask the request……. They’ll be 13 in March………. ♂️

Program Description: "Bay Street—emblem of Canada's banking industry—is closed. The smell of cotton candy and raucous music fill the air. Two midway rides reflect the whirling, tilting exhiliration of the bull market and its less than thrilling collapse. Free to the public and staffed by recently downsized businesspeople, the rides invite audience members to kinetically contemplate the ups and downs of the recent economic crisis. Out of the darkened financial district, screams will be heard!" Artists: Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan.

Road trip to Kivik, Skåne. Sweden is slowly dying. It reached its peak around 1950's. There are some diners left, but only along the biggest highways. And everything is getting uglier.

Cupola shining in the winter sun at Cathedral of the Dormition (Moscow Kremlin, Russia).
The Cathedral of the Dormition (Russian: Успенский Собор, Uspensky Sobor) is the mother church of Muscovite Russia. The church stands on Cathedral Square in the Moscow Kremlin and was built in 1475–1479 by the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti. It is the main church of Moscow and where all the Tsars were crowned. The massive limestone facade, capped with its five golden cupolas was the design of Aristotele Fioravanti. Several important metropolitans and patriarchs are buried there, including Peter and Makarii.

Somerville likes to have multiple streets with not-quite-the-same names. They might be next to each other or halfway across the city; one might be a main street and the other a quiet residential road.
