This terrific Rexall sign at Bailey's Drug Store was a standout along the main street in Louisa, Virginia. I remember seeing these signs in my youth, but they're definitely less common today, so this was a great find. I took this while joining Flickr friend John (John H Bowman) and his wife Ruth Ann on a photo shoot in Central Virginia.
Composed of two other signs: Below is the usual iconic sign for side thruster: a propeller placed in a tube from one side of the ship to another.
A side thruster is a specific kind of thruster that cam move the ship sideways. The top symbol tells us that this is another kind of thruster that does the same thing.
This sign is painted (akctually welded) on a vertical surface. The ellipse indicates a circle in the horizontal plane. The arrows are iconic metphors for linear movement. In this case, we have to figure out the the movement is not linear, but rotation around a vertical axis. We must also figure out that this implies that the thruster extends below the bottom of the ship.
flickr sign made by lego bricks on a transparent table. The shadow is made with a mini lamp (5 led diods) stuck to a chair to avoid some moves while the shooting (exposure 5 seconds)
a hot spring day on the Rhine - I know most of you prefer these signs of spring, less the floursihing flowers and trees ;) - some more are to come - meanwhile its cold again...
This is the only store I know of to use the 2005 pole signage still...and notice how the Photo Center sign has covered up the "Film" word between Cameras and Digital Printing.
The whole visible universe is but a storehouse of images and signs to which the imagination will give a relative place and value; it is a sort of pasture which the imagination must digest and transform.

I saw this sign at the pool area and immediately spotted the *Summersaults* and thought it might have been on purpose . . . .
