Northern Advertising was established in 1955. The company repairs, restores, and produces custom neon signs. The company's owner, Dean Blazek, taught glass bending classes from 1978-1998. His impressive sign collection fills two buildings.

Obviously a companion to Braille. I even just copied the editing exactly and then just made adjustments. It didn't turn out quite how I wanted. I wanted my face to be visible so that I could erase my mouth like I did to the eyes in Braille, but I didn't realize until editing it that my hand was in front of my face. noob. Also the back bend probably would have been deeper but after so many takes there was only so much my muscles could take I plan on doing one more based on sound so that I have a sort of "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" theme.

Spent a few hours out doing photography on Saturday. I loved being fully immersed in it and forgetting about the outside world for a bit. Photography is such a big part of me.
(Does anyone else get nostalgic when they see the brown and yellow Ontario Provincial Park signs? :) )
This warning sign resides in my backyard. It once graced Conrail's Herbert Secondary near Brandywine MD indicating the beginning of a permanent 10mph speed restriction approaching the south leg of the wye at Brandywine where the Herbert joins the Pope's Creek Secondary. It was found in the brush near the main after a new speed restriction sign had been installed.

Every year thousands of people come for the Elvis Candlelight Vigil held in Memphis, TN. Many of them sign the front stone wall of Graceland. I've heard that the property steam cleans the wall just before the week's events start.
Someone stole our Obama for President sign from our yard last night. They stole nearly all the Obama signs in our neighborhood. The ones they didn't take they spray-painted black. So I made this sign today and staked it in the yard. I fully expect it to be trashed by morning. At least they know the result of their pranks: we give more money to Obama's campaign.

It was strange to come across this sign so soon after it was on Explore. I had never seen it in the Highway Code and looking at it again I was baffled as to its meaning. After all it is in a remote spot high in the mountain reached only by a steep and windy single track road that ends in a dead end at the dam. This road has a well maintained and locked gate a mile or two back down the road preventing access to unauthorised vehicles. And then there is a second very well maintained and locked gate making doubly sure vehicles do not go along the dam wall.
So why have a sign warning of vehicles on the dam wall? This isn't a layby off the A34 where Polish and Romanian express international delivery drivers park up waiting for the next load. This is a remote location in the mountain. To me, with my farming pedigree, the sign might jokily be interpreted as a warning to Welsh sheep farmers, watch out for runaway trucks crashing through your sheep dip.
But I was concerned to be told the genuine reason for the sign by a flickr contact. Apparently back in Victorian times, one night a train stopped on a viaduct. Some passengers thought they had stopped at a station, opened the doors and stepped out into the dark expecting the platform to be beneath their feet. Instead they fell to their deaths over the side of the viaduct.
And apparently that is the reason for the sign. Just in case a truck does go through one locked gate, and then the other, at night time in the dark and then stops on the dam wall instead of at either end where there is room to park, and then someone leaps out of the cab. But that won't be a problem if they park in the hand railed area as instructed.
But really if such a sign was only ever needed in the dark, why isn't it illuminated?

Funny sign we saw in East Glacier, MT, as we dined on burgers, beers and huckleberry-flavored ice cream. And if you're wondering, we had nothing to do with the sign ... and I have time-stamped mountain pics to prove it!
