In the last few years, Dad put up two metal buildings behind the shed, I guess so he could store more junk out of the weather. One of them has a tarp on one side. Does that one piece of fabric really help that much? I have no idea. But he would have.

"One of the most ancient churches in Milan, it was built by St. Ambrose in 379–386, in an area where numerous martyrs of the Roman persecutions had been buried. The first name of the church was in fact Basilica Martyrum.
"When St. Ambrose arrived in Milan, the local churches were in conflict with each other over the conflict between Arianism and the Nicene Creed as well as numerous local issues. He was firmly in support of the Nicene side of the conflict, and wanted to make northern Italy into a pro-Rome stronghold. He did this through both preaching and construction. He built three or four churches surrounding the city; Basilica Apostolorum (now San Nazaro in Brolo), Basilica Virginum (now San Simpliciano), and Basilica Martyrum (which was later renamed in his honor). A fourth church, Basilica Salvatoris (now San Dionigi) is attributed to him as well, but may not actually be from the 4th century. These churches were dedicated with anti-Arian language and as symbols of the wealth and power of the pro-Nicene faction in Milan.
"In the centuries after its construction, the edifice underwent several restorations and partial reconstructions, assuming the current appearance in the 12th Century, when it was rebuilt in the Romanesque style."

I shouldn’t have been able to take this photograph. Our 8:15 a.m. flight to New Orleans – before the snow started – was cancelled last night. American Airlines wanted to route us through Miami, arriving 8 hours later today, or depart at 8:15 p.m. tonight, so we elected to leave tomorrow morning. Predictions are for up to 6 inches of snow.

What a day I had. I ventured over to Lakeside Park on the East side of Tucson as I had read that a Pacific Loon, Common Merganser and a Brown Pelican were all present. These are Seabirds and very rare to find in the Desert. I saw all three today. It is believed this Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) came up from the Sea of Cortez or was blown in from California with the recent storms we had. Very large birds with a wingspan of up to 8 feet, this was a very rare treat. I get to check it off of my Arizona list. I have seen these before in Louisiana along the Mississippi River, but who would guess I’d see one in the desert of Arizona. It caught lots of fish, the lake is stocked, and the fishermen were very jealous and threatened to kill the bird. I tried to explain the value of the bird and what a rare treat it was and explained it was against the law to harass the bird…but I am not sure it did anything but piss off the fisherman.
