Historical marker for the 1916 Gilmer Hotel in Rocksprings, Texas. The plaque reads:
"Built in 1916 by Jesse Walter Gilmer (1883-1961), the two-story Gilmer Hotel was originally wooden, with an upper gallery on the east and south sides. It was frequented by traveling salesmen as well as local ranchers and other visitors. The dining room was popular with townspeople, and the kitchen provided meals for prisoners in the Edwards County Jail. The hotel sheltered influenza patients during a World War I epidemic and, later, victims of a 1927 tornado. The Gilmer family sold the hotel in 1918. Texas Sesquicentennial 1836-1986"
I've done a bit more work on the sleeves since I took this photo. So glad to pull out my paints and stamps and have some fun.
Panorama of the three right-side wheels of Curiosity. I like the quality of the light in these images (it almost makes it look as if the images were taken in a studio).
This Chestnut-sided Warbler was belting out it 'pleased pleased pleased to meetcha' song along the Pleasant Street power line in West Rutland, a great habitat for this species.

At the northwest corner under the bell tower is the origin of the church gate, and is also built in pink marble. It is bordered by four columns (two on each side of the door), supporting capitals decorated with foliage (outdoor capitals) and lions and monkeys (domestic capitals). These columns support the ornate arches (torus spiral, human and animal heads ) that surround the tympanum and lintel . This ornamentation is similar to that of of the cloître de abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa.
