The lake level was pretty high, as is usual early in the summer, so we could paddle into marshy side channels.

The famous Koppelpoort in Amersfoort, Netherlands, always photographed from the more photogenic other side, as I was walking back to my guesthouse, I thought I would try it from the "wrong" side, it's not as pretty but still...something different.
A return trip to Teesdale and a chance to venture across to the south side of the River Tees for a walk along the Pennine Way. It's incredible how many photographic opportunites there are on this stretch of the river.
In between stops i met a delightful chap who lives near to High Force and had a lifetimes worth of stories to share. He seemed quite surprised at my response when asked what i like to photograph. His binoculars though gave away his passion!
This image takes in the waterfalls around Low Force. It's actually a crop from a pano. I kept being drawn to this side of the pano so decided less is more.
Best viewed large if you can.

As with profiles of people, stately buildings like the Applewood Estate can have their good side, even or especially when shrouded by Michigan's greenery, as shown here. The ample rain all summer here has kept the grass, bushes, and trees so lush green. I saw this one in my mind's eye and wanted to capture these estate peeks. Hope you like it. This is our Biltmore, with a strong dash of Mott family humility.

I was rushing to get to the other side of the viaduct as the scene was lit with golden light. On the way I noticed a solitary person walking towards me and took this grab shot. At the time I thought it was one for the recycle bin. Although the shots from the other side turned out okay I preferred this one as the light shone nicely on the arches. The iced light path weaved nicely in the frame against the shadowed landscape and the result surprised me.

The 2021 elk rut is fast approaching. These ruts are famous for their violence and aggression, but they have a softer side as well. This bull had his hands full running off satellite bulls and keeping his harem close. But between his charging and bugling, he took time to tend his cows. A bull will often lick a cow as a means of announcing his intention to mount her, however we watched as this bull would slowly approach bedded cows and lick and even nudge his face against them. Most of the cows seemed receptive of this, and many responded in like kind. I believe, and have read in various sources, that this behavior serves as a kind of bond reinforcement within the harem. Perhaps he knew, in some way, that showing his gentler side could lead to more loyalty among the cows, and in turn they would be less likely to risk leaving him to join another harem of a bull that may not be so kind.

This was taken looking up from inside the house.
I had to go back to find something to post. Our weather has been a mixed bag of snow, freezing rain, cold and melting and pretty much a rare day when the sun is out. Walking and driving conditions have been treacherous and to top it off I have had severe knee pain caused by a cyst at the back of my knee, a side effect from arthritis and overdoing my resolve to walk more.

If you spend a few daytime hours in the Fraser or Thompson Canyons, you are certain to see a train or two. In the evening though, especially after a day of heavy maintenance windows for both railroads, you are in for a parade like no other place in railroading. On this cold January evening, from 16:00 through 22:05 I photographed 22 trains, and missed a few more moving between locations. The backlog of trains seemed to never end, and emboldened me to try some angles that would take advantage of the potential of trains passing on both sides of the Thompson Canyon during my exposures.
Above, eastbound CP hotshot intermodal #112 glides by on the far side of the river approaching Toketic. In the foreground, the rear DPU of one of the days many CN C731 loaded coal trains snakes westward towards the former west switch of Martel siding.
