Shell Falls is a waterfall in the Bighorn National Forest on Shell Creek, about half-way down Shell Canyon, and a few miles upstream from the town of Shell in northeast Wyoming. The falls are 120 feet (36 meters) in height and tumble over basement rock of granite.
From the rest area and interpretive center, one can see outcrops of the Cambrian flathead sandstone, about 550 million years old, resting on 2.9 billion year old Precambrian rocks - some of the oldest rocks on earth. Visitors can also see "Copman's Tomb", a massive limestone promontory to the north. Wikipedia

Olive shells are gastrpods in the family Olividae. All have cylindrical, glossy shells with narrow, elongated apetures.
Letttered olives havea thick shell with a small pointed spire about 1/9th total shell length. Shells that are not faded or beach-worn are covered with overlapping, slightly blurry, brown zigzags that are darkest below the suture and as part of two, broad, spiral bands. Oliva reticularis (the Netted Olive) has no bands and a larger spire of about 1/7th total shell length.
The species' range is from North Carolina to Florida and the Gulf states of North America, including Louisiana and Texas; It also occurs in Mexico, and may also occur in Brazil. The lettered olive typically lives in near-shore waters, on shallow sand flats near inlets. The empty shell is occasionally, or sometimes commonly, washed up onto ocean beaches.
Lettered Olives are carnivores and actively prey on bivalves and crabs.
The lettered olive is the state shell of South Carolina.
Native Americans long ago made necklaces of the handsome shells. In the early 1900s these “Panama Shells” were collected and strung to make portières (door-curtains) to sell to tourists.

Several Decades ago, the Shell Oil Company, put out a number of card series. They also sold albums to put these cards in. Everytime you went to Shell for petrol, or anything else, they gave you some cards. The idea was to collect the whole lot, and generally they were most obliging in allowing you to go through the box, to get the cards you were missing.
I only have the Transport Card series left, the others have been long thrown out.
I have scanned each page. This is the final part, part 2.
Admittedly I did place this shot! The shells were on the ground but not in this possition (*quite). I like this photo though, one of my personal favourites.

This is an angled view of my 20 gallon long tank for multies from Lake Tanganyika. There is a thin layer of sand on the bottom with shells and rocks and a few live plants. It is currently occupied by half a dozen multies which are the smallest known cichlids and they live/hide/breed in empty shells

Another period or theme for Ruth before the nude became so prominent in her work was shells: She was swept away for awhile by shells. It started in New York. One winter in the early 40's her designer father, Lucian Bernhard, told her she looked pale and gave her the money to travel to a seashell show in Florida on Sanibel Island near Ft. Meyers. Ruth must have said, "OK, whatever you say, Papa". She took the prints she had to Florida and after meeting a couple key people was offered a spot in the show. She loved the whole atmosphere and a lady stopped by and bought everything she had for $25 a print (which was big money, then). It was the widow of Thomas Edison, who had an estate called the Seminole Lodge in that area. As a warning here, Ruth wrote to me on the back of this print, "A bad print!". What was she talking about? Probably the hot spot in the middle. She believed the print finalized the idea and thought this one failed to do that.
Literally, the white beach is made up of whole shells, not shell fragments, whole shells! They are all cockle shells and are cemented together by rainwater.
