Where the Russian River meets the Pacific

Some nice contrast in the dieing light made this a wonderful image in monochrome. The rising tides flow into these organically shaped rocks in Shell Beach.

Find me on Facebook as well!!

NOV 2011 ~ The lovely Jenner beach looking southeast as seen from the cliff tops.

This is one of my favorite beaches. Very few folks. Lots of wildlife (mainly birds) this late in the season. LOTS of driftwood and interesting driftwood shelters built by folks I never see.

Margo Dodd Park - Pismo Beach, California

This is at ISO 800 with no sharpening, no noise reduction and cropped about 50%. I think that 800 has become the new 400. Focusing is much faster and better. Now, I just need to learn how to use it better. Bigger files mean bigger cards.

Early OCT 2010 ~ Portuguese Beach Wave Sculpted Boulder

My husband by a wave sculpted boulder. You can see how high the winter storm waves reach from the marked textural change at about his shoulder height. Asked him to stand by the boulder for scale. Things are difficult to judge (how large/small) without relating to something we have an innate sense of.

He's looking out to sea. The wave sculpting smoothness is a foot or two over his head height at the front of the rock where the brunt of the waves would hit it during winter swells.

The waves had an awesome ominous energy, even in yesterday's relative calm. Bill commented on it. The shore drops off rapidly, creating strong undertows....the water curls over on itself like it's desperately clawing the sand for prey. NOT water to play in...that's for sure. But gorgeous none-the-less.

We are north of San Simeon, were the elephant seals are.

Early OCT 2010 ~ Portuguese Beach

A foggy sunset. An experimental shot learning how to take these sorts of challenging images.

at the beach of Swansea.

Swansea is a coastal city and county in Wales. Swansea is in the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. Situated on the sandy South West Wales coast, the county area includes the Gower peninsula and the Lliw uplands. Swansea is the second most populous city in Wales after Cardiff and the third most populous county in Wales after Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taf. During its 19th century industrial heyday, Swansea was one of the key centres of the world copper industry, earning the nickname 'Copperopolis'.

Our Road Trip in Western Australia

Taken in Florida, at Shell Beach on Sanibel Island.

Charly was our first dog. She was Husky mixed with Golden Retriever (Goberian). We will miss you girl.

Today I tried my 1.4x extender on my 100-400 mm lens. I'm not too happy with the results. What I gained in focal length I lost in sharpness. But this shot pleased me because of the colors more than anything else. Female House Sparrow, Shell Beach, California.

A cove below Shell Beach

A close-up view of this amazing beach.

Visited in April 1992. (also in July 1993)

This is scanned from the original slide.

Billions of tiny white 'coquina bivalve' sea shells form Shell Beach. The coquina bivalve shellfish has no predator in this locality due to the very high salinity in this bay which predators have been unable to adapt to. The shell fish have existed in huge numbers for thousands of years, then died natural deaths then been washed ashore. Shell Beach is covered for a 60km-long stretch to a depth of some seven to ten metres. Shell Beach is one of only two shell beaches like it in the world.

Photos taken in Herm and St Peter Port on our end of season holiday.

Not a great shot technically, but I thought it was interesting. Shell Beach, California

The prominent textures of the sea cliffs along the coast of Shell Beach. The skies of a rare sight in a drab time of summer.
