Shell Beach on the North Eastern tip of Herm Island is as good as beaches get anywhere in the world! The sand is almost entirely composed of crushed shells and has an amazing texture. If you ever visit Guernsey (especially in the summer), don't miss out on a day trip to Herm!
Not too small and not too big. Shell Beach is just right for me. :) It's the ideal setting for a short visit to the beach for some sun, surf or just a beer at Do Brazil
Breeding West Coast brown pelicans have a bright red gular patch. Pelecanus occidentalis californicus, Shell Beach, California.
This is a result of 3 bracketed photos, 1EV apart, combined in Photomatix. The shells are along the shore up to 1 meter thick and 4-5 meters wide, The location is Soup Bay in the spring.
This Lined Shore Crab (Pachygrapsus crassipies) was found hiding in one of the tide pools along Shell Beach during a photo meet-up with several SLOCC members last week. Thanks to Jerry Kirkhart for the identification!

Late lunch at Zorro's with Tom & Cami. Afterwards, driving home, the ocean and sky pulled us in and we stopped to take some pictures.

Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) (IATA: WAL, ICAO: KWAL), located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, is operated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center primarily as a rocket launch site to support science and exploration missions for NASA and other federal agencies. WFF includes an extensively instrumented range to support launches of more than a dozen types of sounding rockets, small expendable suborbital and orbital rockets, high altitude balloon flights carrying scientific instruments for atmospheric and astronomical research and — using its Research Airport — flight tests of aeronautical research aircraft including unmanned aerial vehicles. The WFF range supports science missions for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and occasionally for foreign governments and commercial organizations. It also supports development tests and exercises involving U.S. Navy aircraft and ship-based electronics and weapon systems in the Virginia Capes operating area near the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay.
In addition to its fixed-location instrumentation assets, the WFF range includes mobile radars, telemetry receivers, and command transmitters that can be deployed by aircraft to locations around the world to establish a temporary range where no other instrumentation exists to ensure safety and collect data to enable and support suborbital rocket launches from remote sites.
The WFF mobile range assets have been used to support rocket launches from locations in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, South America, Africa, Europe, Australia, and even at sea.
Workers at Wallops include approximately 1,000 full-time NASA civil service employees and contractors, 300 U.S. Navy personnel, and 100 NOAA employees.
Taken 1-16-2009 at the opening of the "Ebb & Flow" exhibit at the Huntington Beach Art Center. The exhibit celebrates the City's centennial with historical artifacts, photos, documents, etc.

This image was shot at the Shell Beach Memorial to the victims of Hurricane Katrina from St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Shell beach is outside the new flood wall erected around much of the Parish. It suffered flooding due to the sea surge related to Hurricane Isaac.

The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is a small pelican found in the Americas. It is one of the best known and most prominent birds found in the coastal areas of the southern and western United States.
This bird is readily distinguished from the American White Pelican by its non-white plumage, smaller size and its habit of diving for fish from the air
Pelicans are very gregarious birds; they live in flocks of both sexes throughout the year. They are exceptionally buoyant due to the internal air sacks beneath their skin and in their bones, and as graceful in the air as they are clumsy on land. In level flight, pelicans fly in groups, with their heads held back on their shoulders, the bills resting on their folded necks.
When forage, pelicans fly to a considerable height over a school of fish and then dive at a high speed into the water, often completely submerging itself below the surface as it quickly snaps up its prey before it can swim away. The pelican then comes back to the surface and spills the water out of its throat pouch that had been caught in the plunge and then throw back their head to swallow the prey. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_Pelican

Peron pensinsula Fence reaching into the waters of Shark Bay, WA.
Project Eden is a conservation project that aims to turn back the tide of extinction and ecological destruction in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area.
For this reason a 'Feral Proof Fence' has been constructed reaching from one end right across the Peron peninsula to the other.
Feral invader species, such as cats, foxes, rabbits and goats are being removed from the peninsula to give the indigenous animals a protected area to rebuild their numbers.
Seen sitting on the fence are mostly Pied cormorants.
