Pair of terriers...
Rosie had the chair first, then Tiffany got up, Rosie got down and then climbed up again! Rosie is saying that she wants her place back.
They are actually good at sharing, and often cuddle up together. Ellie the elderly Yorkie prefers her own space.
Sharing the resources and estate. I see quite a few Glossy Ibis in the spring, but this is my first time seeing juvenile late in the summer. I spent about an hour last week photographing a trio of the young birds at Hammonasset SP. Glossies came from Africa to the Caribbean in the 19th century, and populations have steadily expanded to include New England. Thanks to all, I always appreciate those who take the time to view and make thoughtful comments.
Good morning everyone. Just a single pic today of a Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele) and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) sharing the same thistle flower blossom.
Coincidently it's the same Fritillary featured in yesterday's series and the same flower blossom. As for the Eastern Tiger, it's one of the first ones I photographed this year and one of the few I'm seeing in decent condition...albeit a bit faded. Most others are pretty beat.

My favorite Somo River backwater is turtle heaven - so many of these little Painted turtles all over stumps, logs and the shoreline itself. These two caught my attention early, but it wasn't until I was heading out that I managed to get the boat in front of them. Miracle they didn't spook! They're only 4 or 5 inches long and so cute and surprisingly good climbers.
Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love. Love risks degenerating into obsession, friendship is never anything but sharing.

Eliezer "Elie" Wiesel (September 30, 1928 – July 2, 2016) was a Romanian-born American Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor. He was the author of 57 books, written mostly in French and English, including Night, a work based on his experiences as a prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.
Along with writing, he was a professor of the humanities at Boston University, which created the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies in his honor. He was involved with Jewish causes, and helped establish the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. In his political activities he also campaigned for victims of oppression in places like South Africa and Nicaragua and genocide in Sudan. He publicly condemned the 1915 Armenian Genocide and remained a strong defender of human rights during his lifetime. He was described as "the most important Jew in America" by the Los Angeles Times.
Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, at which time the Norwegian Nobel Committee called him a "messenger to mankind," stating that through his struggle to come to terms with "his own personal experience of total humiliation and of the utter contempt for humanity shown in Hitler's death camps", as well as his "practical work in the cause of peace", Wiesel had delivered a message "of peace, atonement and human dignity" to humanity. He was a founding board member of the New York Human Rights Foundation and remained active throughout his life. Source Wikipedia.
My wife and I share a love for European-style plates of charcuterie, and our local Italian restaurant’s special early-bird offer of a plate for two with accompanying wine for just $25 proved irresistible. (And we normally shun early bird dining.) The prosciutto, mortadella and salami were all top-notch, and we liked the cheese and olives too.

Three sandhill cranes share the Central Valley sky with a few geese.
During the first part of March, the migratory birds that call the Central Valley home during the winter seem to become restless. At this time of the year I think back to my first late-autumn visits to the birds and recall how it was sometimes hard to find them at all back then, and when I did they were frequently in small groups and at times in places that were not accessible to me. But by the end of their annual residency, they become much more active and appear in greater numbers.
It seems to me that the different kinds of large birds interact with other species much more late in the season. In the early season I might find cranes in one place and geese in an entirely different sort of location. By late winter they often appear together, and mixed groups are often seen in the air and on the ground. In this photograph you can see three varieties of migratory birds — the large sandhill cranes in the middle, a couple of white-fronted geese below, and a group of white snow geese above.

This year, at the burrowing owls, I noticed early on that they seemed that timing was quite a bit off. Later then normal, when I first started visiting them, they were still both above ground most of the time, they were seemingly courting still, or perhaps preparing for their young.
Often they would be seen passing around some prey that had been cached earlier that morning or late the night before. In this particular instance, a nice sandy frog was being offered from one mate to another, which was graciously accepted. :-)
Hope that everyone is having a great weekend out there. Not sure about you but in Florida it's quite warm. Makes me even more anxious for what's to come in 30 days. :-)

Beautiful day to work out in the yard and bring the camera with. My foundation work is completed for my remodel project, and I will hopefully have some more time for flickr for awhile since it has to cure before I can proceed with the next step.

This is the picture of both giraffes enjoying a meal at Tsavo West Game Reserve, Kenya, as I mentioned in the description of my photo entitled 'The Long Reach' (A few pictures back). They are enormous but extremely graceful animals and are one of our favourite animals.

A couple stops after their beach walk to enjoy looking at the photos they have taken together.
Grand Bend,Ontario.
When a rare winter storm blew in our area recently, I was able to do a lot of bird watching! And of course that meant taking lots of pictures.
Because there were so many photos, I decided to break them up into a series of themed photos, showing off some of the highlights like here - with a male Downy Woodpecker and a Pine Warbler sharing a suet feeder.
Here is the final series of photos called simply - At the Feeder. Hope you enjoy!
