Detail of a succulent plant.
Recently I shared a group of tulip photographs and mentioned that we saw them during April visits to a Bay Area garden. But tulips were not the only attractions there. For example, I posted a photograph of dogwood blossoms a few days ago. Although they comprise a very small part of the overall displays, there are also some very interesting succulent plants here and there.
At this garden, many of these plants are found in small pots in various locations — on a table, on top of a low wall, tucked into a spot on the ground. Many of the are, in my view, not the most visually exciting plants, and some that present interesting patterns are difficult to photograph, often because it is hard to get an uninterrupted framing of the plant. I liked this plant, however, both for the remarkable patterns of the leaves and for the striking colorations.

Two red-breasted nuthatches (Sitta canadensis) sharing the peanut butter feeder.
Actually barely tolerating each other. They seem to be quite aggressive tiny little birds, and almost always chase off all comers.
Conowingo Dam, MD - The two Cormorants popped up from under the water and were fighting over the fish. A Bald Eagle swooped in and the fish got away.
My daughter and one of our dogs, perched up on an ottoman on a rainy day, sharing a snack.

The Eastern Great Egret caught a prawn, and was fleeing a cormorant who was keen to share. At about this point he realised I was there and didn't want to share with me either :)
The Legend of the Doves
One the Lord of Heaven chose two doves, both young and fair
and told them of a very special journey they would share.
"Go now upon the earth and seek two hearts where you may dwell,
and there I shall surely come and make my home with
you as well. We'll join the two and make them one. A Husband and a Wife,
my spirit will endow their love with everlasting life."
Today the Doves still bring the sacred promise from above,
to those whose hearts are open to the miracle of love.
- I am staying in an apartment with occasional sights of doves and pigeons, and while it has been a great sight most of the time seeing pairs of flocking birds spreading their graceful majestic wings across the window, it has been a rather sad thing since I did not able to capture them succefully. (The previous captures, were done in San Marco Square, Venice, Italy, on close proximity)
Until now I got this great 250mm lens! For the first time, this feather friend is appearing in my Middle Kingdom collection.
I hesitated to post this shot back when I downloaded my Yellowstone shots. It is cropped down and very noisy...Definitely not a good photo. But, it was really a highlight of my trip.
Tom Hyde who I made the trip with had to go back to Bozeman because his 500 f4 lens hadn't come in when it was supposed to. I opted for hanging out to see what I might see. Over a very cold snowy, sleety, rainy five hours I saw alot!! Fortunately I was wearing long pants this day. When I mentioned that I was going to walk the road another photographer handed me a can of bear spray and suggested that it might not be such a good idea...Hungry bears and all...
A great guy, Alfred, pointed this grizzly picking over a carcass by the Lamar River and let me watch through his spotting scope.
The Griz had scared off a couple of coyotes who were scavanging earlier. I then saw this large gray wolf sneaking up from the right and had to try to get something with my rented 500 w 1.4x extender. I felt so lucky to witness a wolf and a grizzly picking over a carcass together. The wolf was definitely the wary one in this encounter.
There is an immature bald eagle on a snag to the right and either another immature eagle or a red tail hawk across the river. Of course there were ravens in the area too.
I never did walk the road and Alfred let me warm up in his van when I got too cold. Not only did I get to see some amazing wildlife that day, I was warmed by the generosity of my fellow nature lovers...and Alfred's heated van.
Little one hunched at supper alone, lone
plate, cold table, unquiet silence. Orphan to lust and selfishness, shunned
despairing, forgotten.
Sad-eyed, someone watches,
speaks to your heart: "You are not alone,
for I am with you always." Then asks,
"Have you anything here to eat?"
