The hummers didn't seem to mind me being near them in the yard. There were quite a few, so I went back inside and grabbed the camera. These three eventually settled down and shared the feeder.

I found this Common buckeye (Junonia coenia) and an American snout (Libytheana carinenta) butterflies on one Rattlesnake master (Eryngium yuccifolium) blossom. There's also two tiny black bees but who's counting. Again, the height of this blossom makes macros so much easier.

I couldn't fall asleep two Saturdays ago so Scotch and I went out as the sun was rising through heavy clouds and headed for Manhattan Beach. Surf reports seem to suggest Southern LA beaches get bigger waves than Northern LA beaches. Unlike Malibu, it was already full of people when I arrived around 8:30 AM. Came back a few days later.

On a short section of street running, Pan Am local LA-1 shoves 2 loads for Whittemore Perlite up the Lowell Hill Branch at Lawrence, MA with high hood GP40 380. The roughly one mile branch has two active customers, both receiving covered hoppers.

Several old companions rest easy, a deserted barn, old corn crib and a tractor long ago retired. Younger people sometimes can't understand the instant bond between old people when they first meet but shared memories of times past are the super glue of the heart.

The Detroit River is the border between Canada and the United States. One side is the Canadian city of Windsor and on the other side is Detroit, also known as the ‘Motor City’ (Motown). Windsor and Detroit share a lot and one thing the people on the Windsor side enjoy is the view of Detroit’s skyline. Prominent on that skyline is the Renaissance Centre the world headquarters of General Motors
As fascinated as I am to watch and photograph them in flight, I am even more intrigued to have a hummingbird land nearby to rest. He looked around, taking in the surroundings and gazed momentarily at me just a few feet away. Moving at a pace that we can barely comprehend, one wonders what these fast-paced nectar feeders must think of us? I imagine that it’s no different than a human watching a snail or a slug slowly slither across the ground. It might be somewhat amusing but likely frightfully boring. So, while I slowly lumbered back up the stairs at a pace akin to molasses dripping on winter’s morning, my friend took to the skies, sipped a belly full of sweet syrup, and flew back to his nest. For an instant we shared a space in time, briefly connecting, our eyes interlocked in a moment of shared wonder.
I have seen four ring-necked parakeets clinging onto this feeder all feeding away peacefully, but quite often there's a lot of pushing, shoving, squawking and flapping to access the best position. On this occasion, the three in the photo were behaving perfectly.

Two red-breasted nuthatches (Sitta canadensis) sharing the peanut butter feeder.
Actually barely tolerating each other. They seem to be quite aggressive tiny little birds, and almost always chase off all comers.
Conowingo Dam, MD - The two Cormorants popped up from under the water and were fighting over the fish. A Bald Eagle swooped in and the fish got away.
