A spot of night time shunting is going on at Peak Forest on 30th April 2019. Under the watchful eye of Vince (the shunter), one of UKRL's class 56s sets back a single MMA wagon. This would have been a 'cripple' and would either have been knocked out of a rake of MMAs in the Dove Holes quarry reception sidings on the other side of the bridge or left in the 'long sidings' opposite.
In railway parlance, a 'cripple' is a wagon or piece of rolling stock that requires attention for a fault or defect that stops it from running in normal service. Replacing brake blocks was a common reason for a wagon going 'cripple' at Peak,
These didn't work out so great. The glaze is supposed to be tenmoku, but it was a little thin and came out all red and metallic-y, rather than the black, glassy look. There's black slip on the rim, plus carving, and white glaze inlaid in some spots. I think the design works, but the resultant colours on this batch are disappointing!
