Perricone's Market Place and Cafe

I used Nikkor 18-105mm lens with setting its focal length to 52mm and aperture f/5.0, so N = 5.0 and f = 52. I found out that the circle of confusion for my camera is 0.020, which is C value. The middle of the lens is 580mm from the focus point on the ruler, so U = 580.

Plugging in these values into the provided formula gives us the expected DoF when the ruler is horizontal:

(2CNU^2)/(f^2) = (2*(0.020)(5.0)(580^2))/(52^2) = 24.88mm.

But since the ruler is at a 45 degree angle, the expected DoF on the angled ruler is sqrt(2)*26.63mm = 35.18 mm.

Looking at the ruler, we see area from 10.3mm to 13.7mm is in focus. That’s 34mm, which is pretty close to the calculated value.
