This is my photo for week one of my 52 week project. I thought I'd do something representative of the photographic journey I'll be on for the next year. :)

"Sculpture is an art of the open air. Daylight, sunlight, is necessary to it, and for me, its best setting and complement is nature."

Henry Moore

« La sculpture est un art de plein air. La lumière du jour, la lumière du soleil, lui est nécessaire, et pour moi, la nature est son meilleur écrin et son meilleur complément. »

Smoking sunset - As the setting sun inches towards Waddington Fell, the plume from the kiln chimney at Castle Cement is, for once, a welcome addition to the landscape

Varberg, Sweden

We took a break from cabin chores - jumped into our truck, and Doc and I headed out. Driving through an area that is dotted with ponds - I spotted a pair of trumpeter swans sitting on their nest. I hopped out of the passenger side intending to cross the road and grab a few shots. As I shut my door and looked down, I found a large pile of bear scat on the edge of the road. I stepped over it and then looked up - to my surprise this beautiful cow moose stood in a tiny pond that was not visible to the highway due to the dense vegetation. I instantly forgot the swans, why would I capture them when a moose was just a few yards from me. She was in an ideal moose setting, and she let me get as many shots as I wanted. I guess I didn't look too threatening standing there with only a camera.

Setting up for this one and a lady walked past... coffee in hand, enjoying the quiet and the moment, "Morning", was just a murmur. Fond memories of this place, years ago I did some alterations to the lighthouse.... 12 hour days... but good ones.

Catching the sun going down before a night of observing is always a treat. Can't wait to be back next month!

A Hoboken Extra crew takes an assortment of equipment, consisting of GP40PH-2B 4208, 4202, U34CH 3372, DLW 896, and a multilevel west off 13 Depot to spot up for the "Meet Our Rail Fleet" event the following day. It's not often you see something like this in the only waterfront terminal left on the Hudson River!
