April 19, 2007 - Howard Hughes lot (Playa Vista)

Old Camaro doing stunts - running one side of the car up a ramp and driving on two wheels... They did it over and over, without tipping over the wrong way.

There were no cameras or sound equipment, so this was either for fun, for practice, to test the car, or it was just a ruse to distract me from a full scale gobot walking around in plain view on the other side of the lot.

Just started getting back into riding with the Wakeboard club and Hunter was killing it so I thought it would be a good opportunity to work on getting some pics to stitch together into a sequence. Still some rough edges, but overall I was pretty pleased. And feel free to correct me if this is not an OHH. Just going from memory since it has been a very long time since I've even entertained the thought of trying some of the tricks he was throwing. :-)

Warrior Jedi's wait their turn in the water for the final test as Master Sgt. Perry gives them last minute instructions. The cadre of the 223rd Regiment Training Institute and support staff from various units are prepositioned at various points during each event of the 2013 California Army National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition to keep the operation tempo fast paced and well organized. The Water Survival event was a mystery event for the Region XII competition but it is now part of the usual lineup....Troops arrived at 6 a.m. at Cuesta College, Sept. 11, 2012, next door to Camp San Luis Obispo, to find 70-degree water, a light mist, and a very large pool to tread water in. Once in the NCOs and Soldiers had to stay afloat in place for five minutes. Then they swam the width, rested, and began a mental game where a color scheme was shown and then they had to swim the width back and forth retrieving the proper color-coded canteen in sequence. After another rest, while draped in a wool blanket getting colder by the minute, they jumped back in and dragged a buoyant ruck sack and dummy weapon the length of the pool, dumped it on the bulkhead and swam back. Events were timed and graded. Some troops had to call for assistance from the lifeguards on duty. (Army National Guard photo/Master Sgt. Paul Wade)

My first attempt at sequence photography.

Snake readies the weapon further.

Another from the photo shoot with Derek. This time I was trying to use a strobe and long exposure to make the sequence. Unfortunately being indoors didn't help and since I couldn't afford a super nice strobe, I think it didn't turn on and off fast enough to really stop his action. Still came away with some kinda cool shots though, especially for my first time trying this technique.

This sequence of photographs demonstrates the sequence of operations involved in the making of common frame and box joints. Covered here are; the end lap joint, the cross halving joint, the mitre bridle joint, the finger or comb joint, the mortice and tenon joint and the dovetail joint.

All S3 Craft & Design pupils work on a box project so that they can develop some basic woodworking skills. This year S4 have all been encouraged to work on frame and carcase construction techniques. This is mainly due to the large numbers being presented this session but also due to the fact that we have acquire a lot of high quality hardwoods at a bargain price. For these reasons a more prescriptive approach has been taken than the last few years. This should help make the large number of projects a bit easier to manage whilst also displaying the materials and pupils' skill to best effect.

I'll try and annotate these better over the next week or so.

you can see (sort of, this is small!!) the man shooting with the sun BEHIND him in the first two frames.

you gotta press L to see it.
