A hit Hollywood film often leads to a sequel. Sometimes those movies do well, but rarely will they eclipse the original. Undaunted by those odds, NASA is set to reboot a successful study of Earth’s lightning from space -- this time from the unique vantage point of the International Space Station (ISS).

A team of Earth scientists at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville have high hopes for a follow-up mission for the agency’s Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) first launched into space in the late-1990s. Now, an identical LIS -- built as a back-up -- is headed to the space station for a two-year mission to probe the mysteries of lightning and its connections to other atmospheric phenomena.

Shot in Struga Ohrid (former Yugoslavia) at Spring of 1989 with a Contax 159MM, lens Carl Zeiss Planar 1,4 / 50mm in a positive Kodachrome 200 ASA. Years later the photo digitized with a Canon Pixma 4200F scanner.

Location: Near my house at Tamagawa River, Tokyo, Sunday (17 July 2011)

Taken while waiting for the sunset.

The fence now painted with orange, yellow and gold as the sun continued sinking in the horizon.

And was time to look beyond the other side and see the hues spread like a disease

That even the blues of the vast heaven started to melt and drown ...

Ahihihi.. okay okay.. I run out of words... lol

An abandoned old 1938 Two Ton Ford truck in a farm field somewhere in Southern Alberta. Another oldie but goodie.

Earlier in 2016, Norfolk Southern pulled dozens of SD70's from service, storing them in Roanoke during a downturn in traffic. Many of them were reactivated a couple months later but now with talk of a proposed AC rebuild of SD70's in the coming years it serves as a nice reminder to shoot any Spartan Cabs before they're hard to come by.

On the first of September, NS 2573 led train 13R down Main 2 at Lees Cross Roads. No. 2573 is one of the newest of the SD70's Norfolk Southern acquired; it was part of a batch assembled by Conrail at Juniata Locomotive Shop from EMD kits. It's pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing any AC rebuild of this unit would be at Altoona, where it all began.

Years ago I played a computer game Myst where lighthouses, strange atmospheres and desolation were important ingredients of the game. The sequel Riven (cyan.com/games/riven/) had beter quality images and when working on this picture it crossed my mind, this image could have been in that game. In real, it is a lighthouse on the border of lake ontario, in www.facebook.com/pages/Presquile-Provincial-Park/11332515.... I used my ultra wide lens here and the bias of the lighthouse caused by the lens, is adding to the scene.

From 11 june till the 25th of July, I traveled in Canada. Starting in Brighton Ontario, where my sister lives at the border of an amazing part of lake Ontario, I flew to Vancouver, and Vancouver island where I took the boat at Port Hardy to take part 1 of the Inside passage, to Prince Rupert in BC. Two days later I took part 2 to Skagway in Alaska, from where i took a scenic train through the Rockies to Whitehorse and further on by car to Kluane National park in the Yukon district. Whitehorse is situated at the border of the Yukon. Frow there I flew back to Vancouver, rented a car, and traveled three weeks in the BC- and Alberta Rockies, visiting the famous, and less famous Nature parks like Banff and Jasper. Last few days back to Brighton Ontario to enjoy lake Ontario once more, before going home. A picture of my itinerary can be found on Facebook (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152940536581759&set...).

4000 pictures later, it is quite a task to show the right stuff, although the stunning scenery guarantees at least a few great shots to share. Objective will be to make a book (for myself mainly), and that might take a while.

I hope you will enjoy the impression of my travel, one that equals earlier journeys to Alaska and south America, this journey was the first in the digital era, and equally intensive because of all the hiking activities every day on and on. I loved every minute of it.

During an icy winter night, bivouacking inside one of the glacier caves, I tried to stay warm by moving and photographing. That’s when the idea came to create a sequel to the light photo of a heart I had made earlier.

This time I didn’t use fire, but the beam of my headlamp to draw the word “LOVE” using light painting. An image that expresses my love for the sadly not eternal ice.

Enjoy!

Sequel to this and this

Also today is my birthday and I am now 16 years of age. Swag out dawg

EDIT: I am now nearly 20 and I am appalled that I said "swag out dawg"

As you are no doubt aware Tom Cruise’s anticipated sequel “Top Gun, Maverick” was delayed for release in cinemas for one year from 2019 until summer 2020, but what a lot of people want to know is why ? 🎥🎬✈

Well what happened was, the actual filmmakers wanted extra time to work on a more eventful and dynamic set of flying sequences with more interesting characters, know anyone who fits that bill.🐎🐷

And what a coincidence during this time out, one of the filmmakers was due to get married so some of his mates thought it would be a good idea to organise a stag weekend away for their colleague. Following a liquid lunch the guys chose Cornwall as an ideal venue for its peace and normality.🎉🎊🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷🍷

Following a flight from San Diego where the new film is being made, to Newquay Airport, the filmmakers asked a taxi driver if he could recommend a quiet little village where sensibility should prevail. Sure enough the driver recommended and took these blokes to a little village not far from Sharp’s Brewery (how odd).🚕😜

Plus as part of the service the taxi driver took these guys to a very quirky B&B run by someone you are all familiar with, Trixie Trebillcock who always and as part of Cornish law, puts jam first then cream on the scones for her guests🏡😉

Eager to get themselves aquatinted with the locals, what better place to start than the village pub, have you ever seen a filmmaker who has not been trained in the art of drinking the yard of ale, not a pretty sight. 🙈🍺🍺🍺

Even though the purpose of the visit by these boys was the stag weekend, thoughts of the film were never far away. So with no time to lose these chaps started to ask some very probing questions of the locals about their flying abilities.✈️

One local drinker stepped forward and said he remembers his mother had an Airfix kit and some glue, another local said that when he came home late some nights his wife threw him flying out through the door until he sobered up.😱

Now with that the vicar had come into the pub to organise the quiz night, he also happens to be a keen amateur radio enthusiast.

Oh yes he is right into amateur radio and always carries such a device on himself so he can listen into the pilots at local airports etc.😇

Just as our intrepid stag party from across the pond were about to introduce themselves, the vicars radio burst into life, Hey Rev One, this is Hoof Rider requesting a flyby of the church hall, The Vicar, or Rev One responds, Negative Hoof Rider, the pattern is full, with that there is beer everywhere and the windows are vibrating, yep Hoof Rider carried out the flyby.🔥

The film makers were out of the pub eyes looking skywards at this incredible aircraft that had flown over the village, what really caught their eye was not only the pilot who resembled a horse, but the occupant of the navigators seat, a pig wearing Ray-Bans giving the bird.😁😎😎

Do you all remember these lines from the original film,

Charlie : Lieutenant, what were you doing there.

Goose : Communicating.

Maverick : Communicating, keeping up foreign relations, you know giving him the bird.

Goose : (Charlie looks a bit puzzled) so Goose says, you know the finger.

Charlie : Yes, I know the finger Goose.

Goose : ops I’m sorry, I hate it when it does that.😂

Once Hoof and Horace had parked up their Typhoon aircraft, the film makers could not believe their luck when a horse call sign ‘Hoof Rider’ and his Navigator a pig, call sign ‘Curly’ (think about his tail) walked quietly into the pub for a well earned drink and a full debrief with the film making stag party.🐎🐷🎉🍺

So there you have it, when the new movie is released later this year you will be able to inform everyone in the cinema why the delay was caused and to keep an eagle eye out for the crews🐎🐷 during the aerobatics. ✈️

Thank you so much for viewing my photos, I get so much pleasure taking them.

Your comments and banter are appreciated, have a lovely weekend.

✈️🎥🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷🍷🐎🐷😎😂😂😂

A sequel to this

Marina Sirtis (born 29 March 1955) is an English-American actress. She is best known for her role as Counselor Deanna Troi on the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation and four Star Trek feature films, as well as other appearances in the Star Trek franchise.

Sirtis started her career as a member of the repertory company at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, West Sussex, in 1976. Directed by Nic Young, she appeared in Joe Orton's What the Butler Saw and as Ophelia in Hamlet. Before her role in Star Trek, Sirtis was featured in supporting roles in several films. In the 1983 Faye Dunaway film The Wicked Lady, she engaged in a whip fight with Dunaway. In the Charles Bronson sequel Death Wish 3 (1985), Sirtis' character is a rape victim. In the 1984 film Blind Date, she appears as a sex worker who is murdered by a madman.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - In 1986, Sirtis relocated to the United States. When casting Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gene Roddenberry was inspired to ask Sirtis, whose appearance he considered "exotic", to audition for a role after seeing the film Aliens with Bob Justman, which featured the prominent Latina character Vasquez, played by Jenette Goldstein. Sirtis and Denise Crosby initially tried out for each other's eventual roles on The Next Generation. Sirtis' character was going to be named Lt. Macha Hernandez, the Security Chief. Gene Roddenberry decided to switch them, and Macha Hernandez became Tasha Yar. Sirtis recalls that on the day she received the call offering her the role, she was actually packing to return to Britain because her six-month visa had expired.

Deanna Troi is a half-human, half-Betazoid. Her Betazoid abilities allow her to read the emotions of others. Her position on the Enterprise-D is ship's counselor, looking after the crew's well-being and serving as trusted advisor to Captain Picard, with a position next to him on the bridge. Initially, the writers found it difficult to write for Troi and even left her out of four first-season episodes. Sirtis felt her job was in jeopardy after the first season, but was overjoyed when Roddenberry took her aside at Jonathan Frakes' wedding and told her that the season-two premiere episode would center on Troi. Sirtis appeared in all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and her character was developed from a more passive therapist to a tougher Starfleet officer. She has stated her favourite episode is season six's "Face of the Enemy", in which she is kidnapped and surgically altered to pose as a Romulan. Troi's switching to a standard Starfleet uniform in the same season in "Chain of Command" elevated the character's dignity in Sirtis' eyes, and her enthusiasm in playing her, with Sirtis commenting, "It covered up my cleavage and, consequently, I got all my brains back, because when you have a cleavage you can't have brains in Hollywood. So I got all my brains back and I was allowed to do things that I hadn't been allowed to do for five or six years. I went on away teams, I was in charge of staff, I had my pips back, I had phasers, I had all the equipment again, and it was fabulous. I was absolutely thrilled."

During her time on the show, she became close friends with her co-stars Jonathan Frakes (who played Commander Riker), Michael Dorn (Lieutenant Worf) and Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data). The latter cast members were groomsmen at her wedding.

She wore black-coloured contact lenses during the seven-year run of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the subsequent films because her character had black eyes. Her own eyes are light brown.

She usually wore hairpieces for her role as Troi. Sirtis' real hair was slightly shorter and, although curly, was not as bouffant as her character's. However, Sirtis' real hair was used in the pilot episode, and also in the first six episodes of season six, in which Troi sported a more natural looking pony-tailed style. She was also asked to create an accent (described as a mixture of Eastern European and Israeli) for her character, although her natural accent is Cockney. Over time, the accent was adjusted and became more Americanized.

While filming Star Trek: The Next Generation, Sirtis returned to the UK during the hiatus between seasons three and four in 1990 to film a drama special titled One Last Chance for the BBC. In 1992, she appeared in an episode of the short-lived series The Fifth Corner and had a cameo in the horror/fantasy film Waxwork II: Lost in Time. After the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1994, Sirtis continued to work regularly. Her first role was a departure from previous work, an abused wife in the series Heaven Help Us.

Sirtis married Michael Lamper, an actor and rock guitarist, in 1992. Lamper died in his sleep on 7 December 2019. In 2021, Sirtis moved back to London, citing Lamper's death, growing tensions in the U.S. surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic response, and a desire for career opportunities in British film and television.

At long last, the greatly awaited sequel to The Justice League is here! (Original: www.flickr.com/photos/thebritishbafoon/13593076704/ )

This one has been pretty close to my chest for a while now, just due to the fact that I couldn't help but feel the need to at least shoot each of these characters once prior to being set up in the full image seen here, but you know, I'm partially okay with it though.

Now same thing goes to be mentioned in parallel to my original piece; that being, this is my personal Legion of Doom, so in an artistic manner, you can see every one is an opposite of their counterpart. So yes, I'd rather have Zoom than Gorilla G. (despite one of them actually being in the cannon LoD, and the other, not so much) Hence the reason we have Aries and say, Ma'alefa'ak.

All things aside, we may yet still see solo villains in our future ;)

Anyway, I have wanted to do this one for quite some time, and I'm glad to finally share it with you :)

Destination Unknown Sequel: Day(s) / Flying / By(e) - IMRAN™

In the journeys of my journey of life, a day can literally fly by faster when flying for a night and day, as the days of life fly by. What a joy to experience reaching many destinations before the final flight to our final destination means going by a final Bye. Until then, every trip, every flight, every mile, every view is a gift and a blessing. And below me is…. ?

Introduction

It is recorded clearly in the Bible that the Lord Jesus is Christ, that He is the Son of God. Yet theEastern Lightning testifies that the incarnate Christ is the manifestation of God, that He is God Himself. So is the incarnate Christ the Son of God? Or is He God Himself? Almighty Go says, "'Jesus is the beloved Son of God, in whom He is well pleased'.... That was God bearing witness to Himself, but merely from a different perspective, that of the Spirit in heaven bearing witness to His own incarnation. Jesus is His incarnation, not His Son in heaven. Do you understand? Do not the words of Jesus, 'The Father is in Me and I am in the Father,' indicate that They are one Spirit? And is it not because of the incarnation that They were separated between heaven and earth? In reality, They are still one; no matter what, it is simply God bearing witness to Himself"

A sequel to Dallin's first flight. This is from 3 months ago, time to do another one.

As with the first, this is a perspective shot, no cropping or Photoshopping other then color correction and stuff. There is a fence about 2 inches under the bottom edge of the picture, so it looks worse then it is =)

"Don't Look at Me, I'm HIDEOUS!!!"

One of the interesting aspects of spending time chasing the ore pool motors on the former DMIR is the limited roster. Unlike many other locations, these 6 axle units rarely stray far from Proctor. Last night's post was one example, the second time I had shot the 2006 leading in August. Here is another example, this time, the 408 leads the same power set it was leading when I shot it in the same location 10 days earlier. I posted that shot a couple days ago. There was a different set of cars on the hook the second time, but the power set was the same. Funny how things can happen.

On both occasions I caught the train a second time at Spirit Mountain, and those are in the backlog waiting to be posted.

The sequel to the CP 8757 soaking: the shot that *fixed* my camera's dial. We went after the AAPRCO convention train, and everyone started at 16th Street Tower. First off, we shot 425 and things went downhill from there. A whole blob of rain formed and we all got soaked. Even worse, once the train departed they ran into issues right outside of LaSalle Street station before getting to us. When they finally got moving, we all looked like we had jumped in a swimming pool but at least we all got the shot. Then the train ran into problems again as everyone headed down towards Blue Island. Following that, we got to Burr Oak where I realized that my camera's dial had magically come back to life. Can't say the same about Larry's camera, though.

Kind of a sequel to "Pause"

So I tried to announce my new project here on flickr the other day, but it was acting weird so I'll try again!

Next month I’ll be starting a new project I’ve been planning for a while, and I’m so excited! I’ll be driving around the US and Canada for the next 5 or 6 months and will put together a photo book filled with images I take, and text describing my travels. I can’t wait to get started!

I made a Kickstarter for the project, where you can preorder the book and it has other information too. I appreciate any support so much! You can check that out here:

I've been crazy busy this past week and have had trouble finding time to shoot, but hopefully that will change soon!

A SEQUEL! to "eggs!". i thought i should give a new spin to the angle. i was going to take it straight on, but this seemed so... paparazzi like!

i did some excavating of my photostream the other day, so i'm down like, 15 photos. i don't want my stream to get long though.

Close encounters of the owl kind…Just a year later after my close encounter with the owls, I decided to return to the same woodland river location hoping for a sequel. I was not disappointed and delighted to experience that magic again.

This was one of three barred owls in the woodland area that late evening and it decided to get closer to me being very inquisitive. I was literally just a few feet away and it never budged for quite some time while I photographed it. Then all of a sudden it flew closer to me and landed on a branch just above my head. Wow!
