"I'm like a collection of sensitivities," KiraKira told me once, "I've always been."
At that moment, it occurred to me. That night, the sudden storm when she arrived at my door for the first time, looking so exhausted... The sweet smile on her face despite the pain in her right eye while picking poppies... Always seeing the most vibrant of colors, hearing the nonexistent of sounds, smelling the faintest of scents... And of course, feeling the deepest of emotions.
So I was not surprised at all, seeing her lying on an endless bunch of mattresses one day. "I feel it, definitely" she whispered and smiled: "The pea. I feel the pea, and it almost hurts."
My sweet KiraKira, you would be an amazing princess in another realm, for sure. But I won't let you go. Ever.

If it had arrived during the day it would certainly have been easier to photograph, here the necessary 25 seconds of exposure make the sky blurry due to the rapid movement of the clouds, because unfortunately we can deduce the limits of a prosumer in which it is better not to raise the ISO sensitivity.
If it had arrived during the day, however, I would not have been able to photograph it from the coast, as it is full of bathers until the evening and who often stay until it rains on their heads, having the car nearby (which is also a convenience for those photographs thunderstorms at night...).
In any case, one can sense that it is a rather menacing phenomenon, with accessory clouds, such as the Roll Cloud, which almost grazing the sea surface.
Although the sea is calm and there was no wind at the moment of the shot, the storm reached me in less than 6 minutes, for which reason I was only able to take a couple of photos and not of lightning strikes as the cloudy front low altitude hid them.

SCOTLAND… PLEASE ON BLACK.
It is early October and we are in Scotland, so the weather is ‘Scottish’… which means, some sun, racing clouds, fast showers, lots of light play on the hills and oooh interesting light.
As we are high up, we are closer to the sky, so; often the top of the hills are covered in eerie wisps of white cloud.
Like a lover’s caress.
The weather doesn’t bother us, we take it as it comes, everything has its charms and moods.
We stand on the shore of Loch Lubnaig, standing silent, stunned by such beauty, which changes by the second! I capture the rain.
This is again how it came out of my camera!
I’m a ‘purist’, lol

I hurried to reach a previously identified spot in my morning bike ride. But unlike the last days, the unreal scenario created by the nebulous formations and the orange light of dusk did not happen. I did my best in these conditions and without the necessary neutral filter, mine does not work well with this lens - it should get another, faster, 'cause the October heavens are on the way!

“The soul is a breath of living spirit, that with excellent sensitivity, permeates the entire body to give it life. Just so, the breath of the air makes the earth fruitful. Thus the air is the soul of the earth, moistening it, greening it.”

The Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis), a rare and stunning species native to Colombia’s cloud forests, was captured in Roncesvalles, Tolima, during the early hours of dawn. The bird’s vivid yellow ear patches contrast beautifully with its lush green feathers, creating a striking image against the soft backdrop of the forest. The photograph highlights not only the parrot’s beauty but also the importance of preserving its natural habitat.
This shot presented a significant technical challenge. In near darkness, I selected ISO 3200 to ensure adequate light sensitivity while avoiding excessive noise. The Canon R5, set to Program mode, automatically selected a 1/45 second shutter speed. Despite being an unusually slow shutter speed, the camera’s in-body stabilization allowed me to capture a crisp, sharp image without any noticeable camera shake. The low light conditions at dawn meant I needed to carefully balance exposure to capture the delicate details of the parrot’s feathers and the surrounding environment, while also preserving the mood of the moment. The result is a powerful and evocative image of this endangered species in its natural setting.

It doesn’t make you too emotional, too soft, or in any way too much. It has been and always will be a strength.
The truth is that you can be soft and still be strong.
You aren’t a rock, immune to the shift and pull off the world around you.
You’re the ocean. Always ebbing and flowing; easily affected by the moon and weather. But immense and deep.
Resilient and powerful.
Bounding with life. Yes, you feel things intensely and yes, you’re wounded by others.
But it’s the intensity of your feelings that gives you such incredible insight into who you are and what you need to feel whole.
It’s that intensity that makes you deeply connected to yourself and the world around you.
And it’s your wounds that allow you to be empathetic and compassionate towards the wounds of others.
Wounds that give you an awareness to recognize when people are hurting, and tools to offer support in ways that less sensitive people might not be able to.
I know that it’s so hard to believe in the moment when your cells are incapacitated by your feelings, but your sensitivity is truly a gift.
Don’t let anyone, including yourself, convince you otherwise.

This is one of THE most impressive art projects in the history of our great city! Here is how Andy described it. “Working with a wall is like handling a nerve,” Goldsworthy mused. Walking Wall was conceived and realized by a shaman-scientist, part Dr. Seuss and part Sisyphus, who builds, unbuilds, and rebuilds with remarkable sensitivity to the power of people and place.
The color blue represents both the sky and the sea and is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, inspiration, and sensitivity. Blue also represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, and intelligence.........
Icelandic Highland 20210717
The Icelandic Highland is a huge uninhabited area of Iceland basically covering the center and sometimes stretching to places near the shore. The whole highland area is loaded with natural wonders, hiking trails, places to visit, fascinating geology, mountains, geothermal pools, waterfalls, and much more. It is characterized and defined by altitude as the term Highland implies. It is mostly above 350 meters and thus usually rather cold and seldom specifically warm.
Most of the time the whole area is under snow. Almost nine months of the year. Only in the summer does the Highland reveal itself and start blooming and exposing its vegetation, crystal clear creeks, and beautiful mountains with thousands of colors. In large areas, it consists of vast black sands, dark lava, suspiciously looking rocks, powerful rivers flooding from under glaciers, and long horizons. If there is one message or one thing an Icelander would tell you about the Highland it would be to understand the sensitivity of this harsh landscape.

William Eggleston Mystery of the Ordinary In the twilight, the shadows of the plants grow mysteriously along the wall of the house. In front of this shadow theater stands a metallic-lilac Cadillac, on whose lustrous paint the last rays of the sun dance. The brick-lined flowerbed, the shrubs planted in it, and the straw-woven blinds in the window front with their rusty colors complement this image composition, which at the same time radiates an eerie calm.
In a career spanning over five decades, William Eggleston has come to be recognized for almost single-handedly elevating color photography to the status of fine art. Along with Stephen Shore and Evelyn Hofer, Eggleston was one of the first photographers to recognize the distinctive power of color and its unique capacity to create pictures that continuously challenge the everyday. A blue bouquet on the door of a house, a colorfully tiled building façade, a ceiling painted glossy blood red: the intensity of the color alone, and Eggleston’s abiding sensitivity to it, was a formal and analytical provocation. Below I present what my dear friend Dimitris Kalligeropoulos wrote, while we were in Ethiopia. He wrote also a short part "3" here in Athens.
He is a special person, an artist, a researcher, a teacher in a University, but above all a great human being.
Ethiopia 1
Overturning
Ethiopia, November 09
I want to write something for this country
without emotion and sensitivity.
Besides, I don’t have gathered much.
Only images and figures and souls
of surrounding children.
I sit among them in the garden.
And three young girls speaking to me
in a language I don’t understand.
And they look at the letters I write
and they touch my hair
and they whisper like birds
with their thin voices.
How can I concentrate?
How can I write down my thoughts for you ?
Souls around me caress
my soul
and make me remember
with the same tenderness
my own beloved persones,
my own friends,
my students.
This is Ethiopia,
with the soil,
the simplicity,
the austere poverty
and with its souls.
Ethiopia 2
The changes
Ethiopia, November 09
What a strange thing.
With a trip
in a country far away
with swarthy people, thin, minimalist,
soil people, proud and smiling
how things changed
which appeared unchanged.
How much they lost their value for us,
our money
and how much they got value
for others.
How much emerged
the quiet, delicate, inner sensitivity,
that comes from children’s eyes
and converts the suspicious distrust
in to confidence.
How much has overlooked
the arrogant and selfish egoism,
in front of the common, the team, the unified,
that unites and binds and ties,
that calms, reduces, integrates
rather than break, raise, stand out.
Ultimately, how much it helps
to identify that
there’s another world
except yours
Ethiopia 3
To Makis
Athens, December 09
You told me yesterday that you’ve been touched
by the words I had written.
Rather seemed to bitten you
like those mosquitoes did
in Ethiopia.
And suddenly they began
itching.
And you scratch them
and they bled.

Picture taken some two weeks before the previous one, at the same location, but now with B&W film.
Night photography with (B&W) film is an altogether different story. Film's relatively low sensitivity and highly coarse grain add to the problems created by the scene's high contrast already found with digital photography. The resulting pictures tend to be more about impressions, feelings, mood, rather then about the scene itself.
I usually take some notes, not for each picture but for the film shooting as a whole. For this role my notes say:
Shutter speed 1/30 ~ 1/60
Seldom 1/15 or 1/125
Mostly 1/60 f/2.8
Aperture f/2 ~ f/4, once f/5.6
Accurate focusing of dark scenes and camera shake are two issues you have to deal with. And then exposure measurement is still the most complex of all problems. Can you trust your camera to decide the mood you want to get? I usually take some incident light measurements of the main objects and adjust the result by spot metering the whole scene. An incorrect exposure severely harms the quality of the image, much more than in daylight photography
The question "film or digital" becomes much more acute in night photography, and the answer will be a matter of taste. As to myself, night photography with B&W film is, like beer, an educated taste. The very first gulp always tastes awful. But as time goes on you can't do without it.

I've got my car, we could go and sit a while.
I know it won't turn over but we'll get somewhere just the same
I'm through talking
(it's the strangest thing, I feel safe when I'm lonely)
don't take too much
you'll get burned if it's all at one time
take it easy don't you get it?
it's just an expression
would you raise your voice every time a little dirt gets under?
cry if you want
(it's the return of no sensitivity)
you don't have to scream to say something that you honestly mean
the world won't turn without you
and I am amazed you're standing still
your problems, they aren't problems
be glad they never will
I'm taking my kisses back
I want my kisses back from you
when you hear those footsteps calling
it's O.K. if you don't answer
isn't it obvious?
I thought it was obvious.

The Red Arrows commencing their 'Diamond Bend' display from the 2015 season, taken at The Scottish Air Show in Ayr, Scotland.
The display line was further out than usual due "to the sensitivity of the Shoreham crash" and the only option was shooting into the sun, this lead to quite a washed-out sky. As the smoke was white for this part of the display I opted for monochrome processing for this shot to really bring out those gorgeous smoke trails. As always, the Reds were inch perfect in their precision and it was a fabulous show!

For a long time I wanted to reproduce this idea of photographing a strawberry in a container with sparkling water.
I had to play with the ISO sensitivity and exposure time to give a certain sensation of movement, even losing some sharpness.
