The railroad signals shown here are antiques, almost all of which have been replaced with newer "searchlight" types. These particlar ones were in New Mexico, but there was a well known group of them on the Southern Pacific line in Oregon between Eugene and Mt. Shasta until fairly recently. They could be seen around Yoncalla and Roseburg.

It would last until 2019 when it along with the other Semaphore Signals at Broadford were taken out of service and removed.

and if a double-decker bus
crashes into us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten-ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Originally from the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, the species has become established in many areas outside its native range. These areas include Hawaii, southern California, Mauritius, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, they were introduced in Melbourne in the 1860s and has since spread, often replacing native doves. They are now found in streets, parks, gardens, agricultural areas and tropical scrubs in diverse locations across Australia.

Chatley Heath is part of 336 hectare reserve including Wisley Common, Ockham and parts of Hatchford. It is an area with a mixed habitats including heathland, ancient woodland and conifer woodland. On the top of Chatley Heath is a tower built as part of the Royal Navy Semaphore line.
The octagonal tower was built as part of the Admiralty semaphore chain which operated between 1822 and 1847. It is the best preserved remaining tower and has a working semaphore mast. It is 60 feet high with five storeys topped by a parapet built of red brick. It was occupied until 1963, when it was condemned as unfit because of lack of services. It then suffered vandalism and was damaged by fire in 1984. Surrey County Council and the Surrey Historic Buildings Trust restored the tower to mark the centenary of the County Council in 1989.

The foreshore continues to be a pleasant area to relax. There's 2kms of green foreshore reserved for what beach holidays are all about - having fun. You can play mini-golf, slither down the water slide, ride the vintage carousel or ferris wheel, buy fish and chips and icecream and ride the steam train that puffs along the shoreline.

Abstract:
SEMAPHORE: a visual apparatus for communicating messages over distance.
San Jose Semaphore, by artist Ben Rubin, is a permanent public artwork commissioned by Adobe Systems Incorporated in collaboration with the City of San Jose’s Office of Cultural Affair’s Public Art Program.
Located within the top floors of Adobe’s Almaden Tower headquarters in San Jose, California, San Jose Semaphore is a multi-sensory kinetic artwork that illuminates the San Jose skyline with the transmission of a coded message. The content of the San Jose Semaphore’s message is a mystery; cracking the encryption technique and deciphering the message is posed as a challenge for the public. To the first person or group to successfully crack the code, Adobe will award bragging rights and acknowledgment on both the Adobe website (www.adobe.com) and the San Jose Semaphore website.
