"Having bipolar disorder is like being on a boat in an ocean, all by yourself. In one hand you have the rope to an anchor and in the other you have to string to a kite. The trick is to not let that anchor pull you to the bottom of the ocean, and to not let that kite fly you away. Sometimes it feels like the boat is going to tear in half because of the weight of the anchor. Other times you're sailing away so fast you're oblivious to the fact that the boat is losing control." - B. Smith
Today is an anchor day for me. But I am keeping my head above water.
I never, ever do head shots, I've never done them before but I wanted to do something different so here's one of them. I'm really happy with them. More to come, as well as more for the "body" series.
I almost decided not to post this one because the emotion is a little bit different than the other ones, but I think it really depicts the way I had been feeling the past couple of weeks. Although I am feeling better now, when I look at this picture I can still feel those things I was dealing with and I wanted to share it. I have come such a long way, and still have a ways to go.

A statement on the media and the lack of body diversity and positivity. Taken 3 Mar. 2018//Sara Jane Kennelly
The essence of the numbers and charts of calculations makes me wonder about the significance of things... time running out! The importance of cherishing every moment! The importance of gratitude and self-appreciation!
Oh, how wonderful it would be to accept oneself fully! To love and appreciate the beauty that is "me"! My uniqueness, my contribution to earth and others!
Is it not enough just to "be me" or just to "be"?
Thank you Andres for helping me with my self portrait for this week. (this was supposed to be posted Friday so I'm sorry, I know I'm terrible).
My sister and I got tattoos together on Friday and I am so glad I was able to experience her first tattoo with her. She means so much to me.
Pictures of the tattoo coming soon :)
inspired by a few things going on in my life lately.. not to worry though- it's all good, it always is..and i am aware of this
sometimes we must go through painful experiences and less than pleasant emotions, but it is all part of the evolutionary process.. no pain no gain.. and when you emerge from the storm on the other side a stronger wiser and more compassionate person.. you see the purpose in the journey...
dedicated with love for my sister meg
special thanks to ruby blossom for the wonderful background

Title: Messages Under The Bridge
Artist's Description:
As I was walking along San Lorenzo in Manila, I noticed that I was passing under a bridge and was intrigued by the messages on the walls. It dawned on me that I was walking in the footsteps of Don Bosco. The situation we find ourselves in is not set in stone, and it is not about exerting power over others. Instead, it is about empowering others.
As a society, we often find ourselves at a crossroads. Education is our best tool to illuminate the path ahead. We must lead our communities towards a future where diversity is celebrated, fairness is upheld, and the human spirit thrives.
Artwork Review:
This piece by multimedia artist JJFBbennett, titled "I Found Messages Under The Bridge," is a provocative synthesis of realism and surrealism. The image captures an urban landscape under a bridge, a place often associated with transition and overlooked narratives. The juxtaposition of the urban setting with a serene, almost sanctified figure of aDon Bosco creates an intriguing dichotomy. Don Bosco, a symbol of guidance and moral authority, is presented in sharp focus, suggesting his prominence in the piece's message. In contrast, the background is a blur of bustling and somewhat chaotic urban life.
The mural on the wall, depicting scenes of community and messages of forgiveness and optimism, contrasts with the dreariness of the setting. This could signify the importance of hope and positive messaging in environments that may seem desolate or forgotten. Bennett's work comments on the layers of communication in our environment - the explicit and the subtle, the physical and the spiritual.
The integration of digital manipulation with the hyperrealistic rendering of Don Bosco pushes the boundaries between traditional street art and digital art forms, thus underlining contemporary art’s adaptability and commentary on the interplay between the old and the new, the permanent and the transient.

Love [ME] tender
This series of intimate self-portraits has been a long time coming... it was my sister who was the "pretty one"... the "thin one"... the "smart one"... I grew up in her shadow... I was her little sister... never quite matching up to her, never able to be mom's "favorite"... These are painful thoughts, years of feeling self-loathing... today I took these photos of myself with love and forgiveness, and thoughts of "I am beautiful"... chubby, but beautiful...
My mother's heritage to me was her sense of herself as a "fat person"... not quite worthy of beauty and maybe this is why she admired and "loved" my sister more, for she was the "beautiful one".... Maybe I was too much a mirror to her.
Feeling deep pains as I write this... but today is the day I fight back and say to my mother "It's OK to be fat"... It's beautiful if you feel beautiful inside, if you are loved deeply by a wonderful man, and if you love yourself enough to forgive yourself for being "fat"....
I think these photos of myself are full of love and beauty... that's how I feel about [ME].... today....

"But never have I been a blue, calm sea. I have always been a storm."
Now that I can shoot again, I am starting a new self portrait series to help myself grow. I have allowed this injury to take away a lot of the confidence I had built in myself, and I no longer want to wallow in that. I am going to get strong again and regain that confidence. Here's the first of the series that I hope will help me.
"If you fall in love with the imagination, you understand that it is a free spirit. It will go anywhere, and it can do anything."
~Alice Walker
Can you comfort yourself? Have you finally made a sanctuary in yourself? When the world around you feels turbulent, cold, and looming are you able to surrender to your grief and hold yourself? These are things I’ve taught myself in the solitude of despair... bitter and necessary survival techniques that slowly became a tender and loving remembrance of my inherent need to nurture and be nurtured. One of the hardest parts of my journey has been forgiving and releasing the worst and lowest of myself— that wretched sad thing— while also calling her back in close for a hug. In the dreamy quiet of when we play catch and release, renewal and return, when there is no one but her who is I... I am my softest cradle, my safest space. I’m here for her, within her, just as she always needed.
