As I was walking along San Lorenzo in Manila, I noticed that I was passing under a bridge and was intrigued by the messages on the walls. It dawned on me that I was walking in the footsteps of Don Bosco. The situation we find ourselves in is not set in stone, and it is not about exerting power over others. Instead, it is about empowering others.
As a society, we often find ourselves at a crossroads. Education is our best tool to illuminate the path ahead. We must lead our communities towards a future where diversity is celebrated, fairness is upheld, and the human spirit thrives.
Artwork Review:
This piece by multimedia artist JJFBbennett, titled "I Found Messages Under The Bridge," is a provocative synthesis of realism and surrealism. Today, I set out with my plastic bag to perform a "trash pick up" hike at Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah NJ. Earlier this week, I saw another hiker doing it, and I was already inspired by a video I saw on Facebook about plogging , so I knew I needed to do it myself. It occurred to me, so many times, we all just look at the trash in the woods, and shake our heads in shame, but we don't ever pick it up. Well, some people do- and what an incredible thing it is to actually do! To care about the environment in such a way, that you take responsibility for making the surroundings a better place, for everyone. How amazing would it be if more people did this? I have already seen a big difference at the Reservation.

Can you comfort yourself? Have you finally made a sanctuary in yourself? When the world around you feels turbulent, cold, and looming are you able to surrender to your grief and hold yourself? These are things I’ve taught myself in the solitude of despair... bitter and necessary survival techniques that slowly became a tender and loving remembrance of my inherent need to nurture and be nurtured. One of the hardest parts of my journey has been forgiving and releasing the worst and lowest of myself— that wretched sad thing— while also calling her back in close for a hug. In the dreamy quiet of when we play catch and release, renewal and return, when there is no one but her who is I... I am my softest cradle, my safest space. I’m here for her, within her, just as she always needed.
