Back: two speedlights on the floor
1. If you could go back to any time in your life, what would you photograph?
My grandmother's house deep in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. It was built by my grandfather in a holler. There are a couple of photos, but I would love to have taken detailed shots.
2. What kind of picture do you find the least interesting?
Corporate headshots.
3. Which picture took you the most courage to take (or publish)?
The first time I did candid street photography.
4. What do you admire most in other people’s photography?
Intention. My favorite photos are those that somehow express some kind of meaning or experience the photographer wanted to communicate. It doesn't have to be high-minded or socially "important" (those often produce eye-rolling in me). It can be simple, silly, or even mundane. But when a photo somehow evokes that sense of intention, it elevates it for me.
5. If you could follow someone around for a day, who would that be?
David Lynch.
6. Which shot would you never post on Flickr?
Any photo of my wife she did not give explicit permission to share publicly.
7. What is unphotographable?
My seven year old son in a calm, cooperative state.
8. If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
Curious.

Project 52 - Week 29 - Theme "Self Portrait."
Ok...this was the most challenging of all photo challenges. I can't believe I took so many photos until I finally said ok this on is fine. I practiced posing against our shed like Michael's photo below. I tried in my gardens but I just couldn't capture the background and morning light I was looking for.
Let me tell you how I got this shot. I did need the assistance of my son to hit the shutter button because my new D700 doesn't have the remote to use like my D90. Which makes it a breeze. Why I did not just switch camera's is beyond me. I was in such a hurry to just get this done because I had to bring him to his modeling appointment and I had to meet up with a client for a newborn session.
I used the flowers in a vase to get my focus on...many tries! Set my camera on my tripod and had Mike hit the button. Then I would go to see the image in the view finder and try again...and again...and again. I wasn't that happy with my results...off the camera came and onto a small book. I wanted the camera to look up at me like it is in this image. Ok Mike...hit the button...just keep hitting the button and I tried different poses and finally nailed this one. It's nice...I do love the coloring and how the grass is in the foreground and it's me! Done!
This was shot at F2.2, 1/250 and ISO 200.
The best thing I like...I hardly tweak this photo...the reflector used up against a lawn chair really helped with throwing light back into my face which...fills in the wrinkles...great trick!
Daphne...I'm ready for the next challenge! I hope it will be a whole lot easier! Self portraits are tough and we are tough on ourselves! I so much enjoy being behind the lens instead of in the front!
