okay, I admit had to look that up in Pevsner.

After burial and petrifaction, the brittle log is fractured by compaction and settling of the enclosing sediments, as well as by vibrations from occasional minor earthquakes. Once the log is exposed by erosion the segments can become separated.

I can't decide if this wee bug looks introspective, or just sleepy. Well, you know what they say..."every artwork (or craft project I s'pose) is a self portrait"... :)
