EIG Program conducted a two-month security guard training for disadvantaged youth where 104 youth participated, out of which 43% were women. In addition to the technical security training, the beneficiaries also received counseling, life skills, peace building, and HIV/AIDs training. After graduating from the course, the men have been gainfully employed with Security and Intelligence Service – India Limited (SIS), while the women have taken security guard jobs in shops, nursing homes, schools, hotels, and petrol pumps.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland
Two stone figures guard the main entrance to the bank on East 6th Street. According to an internal Federal Reserve document, Building of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, dated March 1, 1937, the female figure on the right entitled Security, “gazes forth in firm strength, clad in armor and bearing in one hand her iron-bound casket, in the other her sturdy sword.”
The same source notes that Integrity, the statue on the other side of the entrance, is “crowned with olive,…her gaze fixed on a future untroubled by doubt. In one hand she bears the important rolls of office … In her other, she raises a rod, tipped with an uplifted right hand symbolic of the oath… of responsibility.”
Three larger-than-life statues grace the exterior of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank, these two in stone and one other in bronze. All three were sculpted by Henry Hering of New York City, a student of the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Security is quite evident around the palace complex, and with good reason. On 30 November 2011, a Libyan ex-policeman and self-proclaimed revolutionary Samir Salem Ali Elmadhavri, apparently copying the act of Norwegian extremist Anders Breivik, attempted to massacre tourists visiting the Palace. Stopped at the Bab-i Humayun entrance by the Palace Guards, he opened fire on soldiers and security guards, injuring two. After that he entered the main courtyard of the palace but was forced to retreat and find shelter in the entrance by the Palace Guards. After a gunfight lasting over one hour he was killed by Turkish Police SWAT teams. The incident understandably sparked discussion about Palace security and the apparent ease with which a foreigner was able to enter the Palace in daylight, during working hours, while carrying two hunting rifles. Security has since been improved!

I went to the Social Security Office this morning to get a new SSN card. I waited for 2 hours for my number to be called and it took the agent 5 minutes to get me out the door. While waiting a woman came in with 2 big bags and the security guard ask to search them. She refused and was asked to leave the building. She came back about 30 minutes later with out the bags but with some books and it looked like a table...the security guard asked her to leave and call the police.
