Employees reporting to work at the Phillips Packing Company in August 1941. The small building on the left is the only remaining structure from Factory B that was pictured in some of the images of the 1937 strike.
In 1965, the packing complex shown in the photos was burned--leaving only the small brick administrative office that still stands today and is occupied by the Coastal Gunite Construction Company at 16 Washington Street (across the street from a Wawa).
The strike was one of the few attempts at a bi-racial union in a part of the country where brutal lynchings were more the norm.

The area is now unstable and you need to walk through as quickly as possible.
When it got dark, that corrosive barrel (with the aid of 3 people) started to move and they were talking to it to get it stop struggling.

Both of my rescue dogs are very disturbed by the sound of thunder. One hides under the bed and the other seeks shelter in the bathtub. I've found that covering them with a blanket quiets both and makes them feel more secure. This particular blanket just happens to have touches of pink...or more precisely, faded red.

Iraqi security forces carry out random checks of vehicles and bikes along a main road in the southern city of Basra, 550 kms from the capital Baghdad, a day before the pull out of US troops from Iraqi towns and cities on June 29, 2009. The American pullout, under a bilateral security accord signed last year, will be completed June 30, which has been declared a national holiday, but soldiers and police were out in force as festivities began.

THE WIRED ENERGY CONSUMER
The race is on to control every aspect of the house from electric vehicle hookups, solar and storage systems to energy management, which includes smart products such as Internet connected thermostats and appliances. Technology, big data, sensors, massive processing power and mobile apps will help make tomorrow’s homes be more energy efficient. The businesses that control these smart products will be able to tap into a tremendous amount of data about the habits of Americans, presenting a huge, new marketing opportunity. The utilities want to dominant this new business but so do a lot of big home security, cable and Internet companies. Who will be the winners and losers?
