It's a bank holiday today, with dreary grey weather! These seashells represent summer holidays & the hope of a visit to a beach at some time.
Vanilla sugar cookies with almond royal icing and demerara sugar "sand." Part of the order for the Four Seasons I am working on this week.
This would make a gorgeous beach wedding favor!

I am not sure if these can be called 'wagashi', or maybe 'hinagashi'?
If there is a certain Japanese name for this type of candy, please feel free to comment and let me know. :o)
I bought several boxes of these in the Daimaru food hall in Tokyo last April, and almost a year later, I found one forgotten box in my cupboard, still gift-wrapped. I would not want to give it to anyone now, as the expiration date has long since passed, but they are still pretty to look at.

When I visited Algarve in Portugal few weeks ago I collected seashells and I was happy like a child about the various types and forms.
Now at home I look at them again and again and every time I´m surprised by their beauty.
-“Have you heard about Mrs. Shell?
-“No, I haven’t, but you’ll certainly tell me the latest news, won’t you?”
-“You won’t believe it, this crazy neighbor of mine wants to move house !!! “
-“Well, well , but doesn’t she know that …. this will be her first AND her last move? “

-------------
A perpetual remembrance for those who never overcame a love
those where they are only thinking of the sea which is their only consolation ...
because the sea is like love everything that comes back to the shore ...
broken into pieces as the sand ...
or safely inside a bottle ...
love always returns to his beloved on the shore waiting for him
