Much of the older part of town developed in the heyday of seaside bathing, during the latter part of the 19th century. As a consequence, the fine villas that were developed in those times are now subject to preservation orders. Any refurbishment must be in the same materials and colours as the original work. No plastic doors or roller shutters are allowed.

Annie and I went for a cycle down to the seafront at Southsea yesterday. It's still flipping cold out, I can't wait for the summer when we get these lovely bright blue skies but it's actually warm enough to go outside in short sleeves!

Phone and internet connection still not working. It's been nearly 2 weeks.
I spend half an hour in a call box yesterday, negotiating an automated system before getting through to someone whose accent I could hardly understand only to have them tell me what I already knew: that an underground cable needs replacing which means getting in "the contractors". When pressed to estimage a time she thought days rather than weeks or months but didn't sound very sure. She also said she would text me an update which has not arrived.
I feel seriously out of touch with the work and just don't know what to do to get them to fix it ...
