New York City from the 70th floor observation deck of the Top of the Rock with the Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower in the distance. During the summer months the sun does not set over the skyline from this view of the Empire State Building so I decided to edit with a new action called Light & Sunflare Overlays from Florabella.

Tottenville Axo: A “unit” of change includes risk reduction, culture/educational programming, and ecological regeneration. Our approach is especially suited to Staten Island’s south shore, but it is also replicable in other waterfront communities faced with the similar duality of risk and opportunity presented by their adjacency to the water.

Te Pu o Te Wheke
First exhibited at the Hawai’i Triennial in 2022, Te Pu o Te Wheke honours the Pacific Sisters’ long-standing and ongoing explorations to amplify Pacific bodies, stories, gender fluidity, garments, and expressions. The installation comprises eight full-body portraits produced in close collaboration with photographer Pati Tyrell. Each image, presented as a lightbox and activated through augmented reality co-developed with iSPARX, depicts a niu aitu (ancestor) and addresses the foundational question, ‘Who are you?’ Audiences can use the AR (augmented reality) application to bring the aitu to life through sound and animation; please scan the QR code to activate the Pacific Sisters app.
Te Pu o Te Wheke responds to this season’s theme of Sweat Equity, which explores the effects of labour and capital on the body, through the transformative and self-determining nature of ritual and adornment. The Pacific Sisters create their identities through attire which blends traditional methods and materials with contemporary creative approaches.
Each of the Sisters has chosen a niu aitu to embody; collectively, the group represents those things not lost to colonisation, values and passions of the Sisters and other Pacific peoples. Among the niu aitu are Taulāitu (Taulā o le Aitu) a spirit medium who guides and holds the collective mauli (soul) that exists within and between this world and the next; Tū Irarere Te TūPuna the upholder of gender-fluid ancestral space; Mapu Malie, who champions mutual respect between humans and all other creatures as kaitiaki of their respective domains; and Ngā Roimata Auhi a Mārie, The Anguished Tears of Peace, who mourns for a world torn apart by conflict and loss.
Hub perspective: A network of programmed water hubs connect people to the water and encourage water-based activities in the calm water behind the Living Breakwaters. The water hubs offer basic services such as bathrooms and water fountains, as well as a host of programs suggested by local community groups, including storage for monitoring equipment and kayaks, classrooms, wet laboratory space, flexible gathering spaces, local restaurants, bird watching stations, and nature observation decks

Spidey has LINES. He's about good to go. Gotta add some webs. How long have I been drawing Spidey? Since I was about 5. Got his face on lock. The rest of his costume, can be a pain (as many comic artists know).
I revised the area around DARTH VADER, giving Hellboy and Goku center stage display (superman is above them both). I like this area, I feel it represents MOVIES (vader), INDY COMICS (hellboi), MANGA (goku) & AMERICAN COMICS (superman)... You can also slightly make out a SONIC T. HEDGEHOG squished in the centre of the diamond, representing VIDYA GAMES. All elements that make up the Emerald City Comic Convention.
This is my 3rd (and final) placement of GOKU on the mural. First he was Z style, blasting Superman with a fireball. But a few reasons led me to change it. I decided I liked larger characters on the right side of the mural, and I wanted more iconic shots of superman and Goku. (this decision also turned out to make HELLBOY look a HELL[BOY] of a lot cooler)
Then I tried a KID GOKU riding his cloud right next to spiderman... This was OK, but still not very strong. And there's not a lot of good light in the area, so I felt Goku was downplayed.
Then, I decided to play on Hellboy's awesome stature, and try to make it a more symmetric, diamond orientation in the VADER area. At first I had a sketch of MARV from SIN CITY in goku's spot, his arm in the same position, but he was holding a HACK SAW (as he does in sin city, to cut elijah wood's head off). This was a decent decision, MARV is more than worthy. But a few factors made me decide against him. 1) He'd be majorly black& white, which conflicts with vader, 2) the hack saw right next to spidey's head was a little harsh, 3) hellboy already represents INDY comix, so fitting with the theme, putting a manga character here would be better.
And GOKU DESERVES IT.
He's the Japanese Superman.
So ya, take 3 of Goku, has him confidently flexing for the camera, smirking and winking as Goku would cheerfully do. Much more in character than him blasting Superman for whatever reason (which is, however, a battle all us comic fans REALLY want to see legitimately at some point, amirite?)
And he is, of course, Super Sayin'.
I did not know of these until we signed on to a vegetable subscription program. In the spring a garlic bulb will send up a flowers stalk or "scape". Cutting the stalk off forces the plant to put more of it's energy into growing the bulb. That stalk, however, can be minced and used as one would use garlic. As they get older the bottom gets woodier, but bud remains tender.
Pickled Garlic Scapes get an extra punch of flavour from garlic flowers (the pink things) and mustard seeds.
