...He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile...
This 1/12th scale stile is based on one we use when visiting inlaws in the U.K. The full-size ne is crooked and wobbly, but it's been there for years!

The inhabitants of the Grotty Grotto will use this stool instead of a chair while working at their table. It's made from recycled cedar. Notice that the legs are all different - I wanted a primitive, hand-made look, and I think I got it!

The logs were made using lengths of finger-jointed, half-inch square pine trim. The pieces were cut to length, notched, and roughened using a craft knife and sandpaper to look hand-hewn. The outside of each log was painted a base grey colour, then other shades were added. Once dry, the outside was sealed.
Once I had some of my logs cut, I simply HAD to see what the walls would look like. This was a dry run.
Lavender Cottage started out as a Greenleaf "Arthur" kit. Although it was fairly easy to put together, every single piece required an amazingly huge amount of patching and sanding before gluing. Some of the wood was badly warped - in fact, the stairs were so bad I decided not to use them. I had to replace a number of the smaller pieces with basswood, as the originals were unusable.
Despite the poor quality of the wood, I love the way the cottage is turning out!
