Twas the night before Christmas, at Elmira’s house

Not a creature was stirring, not bat, cat, nor mouse.

In the cauldron on the fire the potion was stewing

A special Christmas Eve potion, very long in the brewing.

Elmira lay snoring, flaked out in her chair

Of that Christmas Eve potion, she’d had more that her share.

When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter,

Elmira awoke wondering what was the matter.

And what to her horrified gaze did she see,

Santa’s black boots coming down the chimney.

“Oh no!” shrieked Elmira. “I completely forgot!”

“If those boots touch the cauldron, the potion is shot!”

With a terrible screech, she leaped from her chair

She rushed to the hearth, she just had to get there!

Elmira yelled out, what she said was quite rude:

“Get back up that chimney, or Santa, you’re.... stewed!”

My father used to refinish antique furniture and always saved any bits of wood from pieces that were too broken to repair.

These pieces have been in a shed for over 30 years. They were filthy, dusty, and covered with dead bugs, spider webs, and egg sacs. I wore a mask and cleaned them outside!

Some of this wonderful old cedar was used originally as the backs and sides of drawers in antique furniture. Other pieces were used as the backing on old picture frames. It will now be recycled into miniature furniture.

She has two hanging racks for drying herbs and plants.
