This is two streets and under 500 metres from Haringey's Reuse & Recycling Centre in Park View Road.
Number of parts: 5 (6 if you count alternative commander's hatch)...
Again, this appears to be a 1945 pattern "Flattened" turret but unlike the Armourfast version there is some attempt to replicate the original's welding and casting marks. In particular the fluted 'fillets' are decernable near the turret collar and Pegasus have included the traverse mechanism bulge and commander's cupola bulge on the left side of the turret.
Pros:
- Passable attempt at including the distinctive welding and casting marks.
- Alternative commander's hatch is included in the open position
- Periscopes (Mk. 4s) are correctly modelled
- Turret dimensions appear to be closer to scale
- Gun is correct length and thickness
Cons:
- Secondary hatch is moulded shut
- Air vents are little too dome-like
- Naturally - as a quick build - all rails and lifting rings and other small detail are missing
- Gun is a little bent and badly moulded, includes noticeable seams
- Gun barrel is not drilled out
Scale models or toy boats from Lines Bros variously sold over the years under the brands of 'Penguin', 'Triang' and 'Scalex'. From the Meccano Magazine August 1954. A simple Purchasing Power Calculator would say the relative value of 45 shillings – the price of the ‘Pretoria Castle’ is now £53.75 – so quite an expensive toy or scale model. I went west this weekend, hoping to get in on the hawk migration that's been going on that I've been missing because it's just been too cold and wet with the non-stop rain for the entire month of September for me to want to go sit on a mountain. Disappointingly I seem to have missed it, or maybe the day just wasn't good for it. A few distant birds soared through the sky, but they were mostly vultures. The guys manning the hawk-watch at the old inn at Rockfish Gap were having a slow time of it.
Meanwhile, I was getting distracted by the veritable cornucopia of bugs crawling around on the building we were hanging out next to, many of which I hadn't seen before. This was one of the prizes - such a weird thing! And so tiny! Just a little speck! I wasn't sure what it was, but the 4-section antennae made me think a Heteroptera of some sort. Until I got to look at all the photos on the computer here.
Those legs looked familiar, and something about the eye area. Then there was the shape of the butt-end... So I Googled "humpbacked springtail" and BAM! There it was.

The Inn at Afton, Rockfish Gap, VA
Here I was looking at some old houses in Healdsburg, Ca. and up on a porch sits this vintage Toledo scale. I use to see them in the butcher shops when I was a kid.
Still have to add grass/flock around station, but that's the last major scenery part done now (apart from adding trees!).
The Scale Model section covered everything form the tiniest models to the largest. The scales were ,micropolis micro, mini, miniland, macro.
