A black bear exits the forest to snag some salmon from a creek and bury them in his cache to eat later. This bear has a tapeworm, which can be expelled, as well as the tapeworm eggs, by eating sedge grasses before hibernating. Hibernation also kills off most of the parasites, hopefully allowing the bears to emerge healthier in the spring. Raw salmon carries these eggs and as soon as the bears begin eating the incoming spawning salmon, the tapeworms appear again.
