Just a small vignette I made to raise awareness of the situation in Ukraine. The protest has been largely peaceful but also very steadfast. The initial protests that started in November controlled several large swathes of the capital, Kiev, with many embittered of a rejected EU deal as a result of pressure from Russia. As of now, protesters have primarily concentrated in Independence Square and their objections now call for the resignation of the government.
For those who have been paying attention, the first deaths of the movement came yesterday, and as such, I felt a need to make a small portrayal of the events in the brick. Those in the back are peaceful, those up front are taking action, and several, including leading figures, are injured braking up scuffles between protesters and the police. The title is for those in between trying to maintain the peace.
Our envelopes came from a local paper store (now out of business :( ). Any A2 size envelope will work for this type card. The final card was 5.5" x 4.25".
Saves what? Lives and fuel, it turns out. We can barely make out "55" in the center of this sign. In response to oil supply problems and price increases, a federal law lowering the speed limit to 55 mph was signed in 1974. The law was supported by what Wiki calls "a series of feeble advertising campaigns."
"Save our seas" on a visit to Cape Town in May 2010. Impressive vessel! I could not get a better capture as I had to stick the lens through the security barrier. :-)

save the animals... save the environment...
maldivian children ought to be taught to be kind to animals... but it won't happen unless we, as adults, lead them by example... in one island i've seen grown men amusing little kids with their key-tags of live, newly hatched chicks... even in Male' we're increasingly seeing rare, exotic birds being kept as pets... chained for most of the day, and often caged... i personally know of a few cases where the birds ended up dying after a few days/weeks, mostly due to bad care or treatment....
keeping these birds in such conditions and claiming to love them, in my opinion, is like bombing for peace... or having sex for virginity....
Crews were taking signs down as was going by.

As Cobra Commander emerges from an underground bunker his personal guards - led by Tomax and Xamot - and the Barroness spread out to make sure the permiter is safe for thier leader.
This is the same Red-legged shieldbug as the previous picture. Well I could hardly leave it there on its back struggling for it to drown, so I picked it up and let it clean itself off.
It soon seemed none the worse for wear, so I put it down in the grass to finish cleaning its antennae.
Nice to have a happy ending.

Moochin into town yesterday and noticed the banner.You can just make out the workers that had put it in place. Little did i know that this was the start of a sit in protest to save the yard which faces closure. The administrators are due possibly this week. We cannot be losing the yard which is and inherent part of our history.
There is a call to nationalise the shipyard and in the absence of any government here, meaning we're effectively governed by Whitehall. So why not?
Of course with Boris running around the UK, dishing money out (apparently from a pot of £300m) whats to stop him helping out? If, and it's a big if, Boris had any sense, he might step in and do something about this. You can email him.... email.number10.gov.uk/ boris.johnson.mp@parliament.uk
