Today I became the proud owner of a vintage neon sign. I have two large neon advertising clocks, but this is my first actual sign. I am so thrilled to have it, and I am happy I was able save a little bit of Oakland history that was headed for the landfill. This is preservation in action!

I came home today and let the dogs out and then went to see what was hanging out at the feeders.
I saw this house finch sleeping in the middle of one of our feeders. After snapping a few pictures without his waking, I was worried so I touched him and he woke for a bit.
A closer look revealed what appeared to be bite marks on his back and near his wing - most likely from a cat. I pulled him out of the feeder and put him into an empty nest box with some food to protect him and shelter him. An hour later, he was gone - I'm not sure where to.
I have more pictures, but this one really caught my eye when I was quickly going through them.

Returning from vacation in the summer of 2011 back in my country I found myself in front of this terrible show.
A whole mountain was on fire and the only thing you could see in total darkness, it was the fire front.
The worst thing is that most of these fires are deliberately started, hung by people who do not make scruples about destroying a fantastic natural landscape, despite being in a national park.

Al ritorno dalle vacanze nell'estate del 2011 nella mia terra mi sono trovato di fronte questo terribile spettacolo.
Una intera montagna era in fiamme e l'unica cosa che si riusciva a vedere, nella totale oscurità, era il fronte del fuoco.
La cosa peggiore è che la maggior parte di questi incendi sono di origine dolosa, appiccati da persone che non si fanno nessuno scrupolo nel distruggere un'area naturale stupenda, nonostante sia all'interno di un parco nazionale.

there are memories that are wasted to forgetfulness. if we could only save every detail of our lives both sad and happy in CDs and go back to it time and again, there would never be a beautiful past forgotten. we could have been given the chance to think things more than once, review, relate and reconsider. if we have memories kept in CDs, we can go back and be happy when we are sad or make a difference to sad experiences..if we could only keep memories here, there are no beautiful songs about love...because "Our song is the story of our lives, an entirety of our beings blended with melody and lyrics".

i don't think my obsession with clarendon will ever end.
for anyone looking to make their own save the days, i would recommend it. there are about postcard size, and we got 100 printed on cardstock at kinkos for a little less than 40 dollars. pretty awesome.
ps. anyone seeing this who is interested in something similar, message me! i can make them for you!

Save Rite is a low priced grocery "wholesaler" that is owned by Winn-Dixie. Here's the logo along with the mascot, Sir Sav-A-Lot. I love these graphics.
