We finally ordered the sweets for our wedding next month. Cocoa Bean in Geneva makes desserts and baked goods that taste even better than they look, which is no small feat.

A representative soil profile of a Sumter soil in Alabama.

Sumter soils formed in silty and clayey residuum weathered from chalk. These well drained, alkaline soils have chalk bedrock that can be dug by light machinery at a depth of 50 to 100 centimeters. (Soil Survey of Hale County, Alabama by Christopher Z. Ford and MacArthur C. Harris, Natural Resources Conservation Service)

The Sumter series consists of moderately deep, moderately well or well drained, slowly permeable soils of the Alabama and Mississippi Blackland Prairie (135A) and to a lesser extent in the Texas Blackland Prairie, Northern Part (86A) and the Cretaceous Coastal Plain (135B). They formed in loamy and clayey residuum and alkaline clays that weathered from chalk. Near the type location, the mean annual temperature is about 67 degrees F., and the mean annual precipitation is about 51 inches. Slope ranges from 1 to 40 percent.

TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-silty, carbonatic, thermic Rendollic Eutrudepts

Solum thickness and depth to chalk ranges from 20 to 40 inches. The calcium carbonate equivalent ranges from 40 to 65 percent. Non-carbonatic clay content ranges from 18 to 35 percent. Reaction is neutral to moderately alkaline in the surface layer, and from slightly to moderately alkaline in the rest of the profile.

USE AND VEGETATION: Most of the less sloping areas of Sumter soil

are cleared and used for growing pasture, hay, and small grain. Some areas are in red cedar. Steeper areas are in native woodland, mainly oaks and red cedar.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Blackland Prairies of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and eastern Texas. The series is of large extent.

Documentary smartphone pictures of some accessories helpful for photography with my Zorki 1 type D (year 1955) or any Barnack Leica camera type/clone with bottom film loading.

January 26, 2023

Lyon, France.

The film trimer was home-made from a French "Requerre", a soft rule from ALEF editions, France. Swiss Victorinox Minichamps and SwissCard Lite are anyway residents of my photo bag regardless of the camera used but the scissors find here a particular application to trim the film leader for a Barnack Leica camera type. The leader should be extended to the 20th perforations and gently rounded not to damage the shutter curtains upon film initialization.

About the camera and the lens:

This camera is a practically mint sample of Zorki 1 arrived to me in Lyon, France, January 10, 2023.

The camera looked exiting from the KMZ factory in USSR almost 70 years later spent in a time capsule ... with almost no traces of use. According to a custom receipt of July 28, 1955, signed in Vienna, Austria, the camera body and lens are the original matched ones. As for the original FED, FED-Zorki and Zorki's ("ФЭД", "ФЭД-Зоркий", „Зоркий“), the Zorki 1 was a straight legal copy of the Barnack Leica II after the cancelation of German camera patents following the end of WWII.

This Zorki 1 is a type D model PM1115 (year 1955 according sovietcams.com/index7584.html). Type D Zorki's were produced from 1953 to 1955 in about 250.000 units with serial numbers ranging from #470.000 to (in 1955) #55 45.000. The original lens of this Zorki units is an collapsible lens Industar-22 1:3.5 f=5cm.

In the rear pocket of the ever-ready leather bag was deposited the custom receipt and a film label of Agfa negative-color CN17 likely from the 60's.

Finally received a sample deck, but unfortunately had to photo with very low light and just a few minutes to spare before heading up the mountain.

Design NOT owned by me. For sampling purposes ONLY.

This is another set Im working on for my wedding portfolio.

This is the verbiage on the back of the little packages:

These little gift tags have huge personalities. You won't even need to bother with conventional wrappings if you use a gift tag decorated with bright hand-marbled paper. The stock section of the newspaper or that brown paper bag in which you carried your groceries will do nicely.

The marbled patterns are made by dragging rakes and combs across floating paint droplets. The contrast of the colors emphasizes the fine details in the patterns.

The cards were assembled using a wet adhesive commonly used in book binding and then pressed until dry. All the papers are hand cut and trimmed.
