Adding the last five uninspiring photos taken two days ago. Not the best quality, but posting for my own records.

The day before yesterday, 17 March 2022, I took a last-minute afternoon drive SE of Calgary. The sun was shining and I just felt like getting out somewhere for a few hours. The roads are clear of snow, which makes such a huge difference.

No new roads for me this time; just checking out a few of my usual back roads. It was great to see that there was a lot of open water, both sloughs and temporary 'ponds' in fields. We have had so little snow this winter - small amounts on quite a few days - which is not going to help Alberta's drought. March is said to be our snowiest month but, so far, the weather has been beautiful. Looking at the forecast, they are expecting this mild weather to continue, even 18C for 23rd March.

My first sighting turned out to be a Bald Eagle. When I first spotted the distant dark 'blob' high up in a tree in a tangle of branches, I thought maybe it was a Great Horned Owl. It was almost impossible to get a tiny open spot to take a photo or two. (from my car window), but nice to see.

In places, there were so many birds in the fields. At first, I expected them all to be Canada Geese. However. when I zoomed in, I was delighted to see that there lots of Northern Pintail ducks scattered among the Geese. Pintails are such beautiful, elegant ducks and it is always good to see them return.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found three Snowy Owls! The first one I found was a new (to me) bird; my fifth Snowy this winter. I had noticed a few birds in a field, mainly Canada Geese, but then took a look at one that looked different and smaller. At first, for some reason, 'gull' came to mind, but when I saw it from a slightly different angle, I realized that I was looking at a Snowy Owl, down on the ground near the Geese.

Continuing my drive, I came across two Snowy Owls, a male and a female, that I had seen before. Couldn't get a half-decent photo of either. Both were skittish, despite my sitting in my car way down the road from them.

A group of European Starlings were fun to see. Love it when they actually stay still for a moment. Though they are not popular birds with many people, they are beautiful, especially in the sunlight.

Dear Mona, your generosity has no limits 😍 Knowing your pictures, admiring your art, it becomes pretty obvious in what delicate and elegant ways you conceive artistry, you develop your own creativity. When you pay attention to some of our contributions, I believe you look at them under the same perspective and taste. Thus, the fact that you choose to highlight one of my pictures in your groups is the greatest compliment. It is a real honour to have my latest picture featuring as the cover of Show us your Journey through SL ( no Avatar please )! Thank you very much, my friend ❤

Same shot as before but different - because the original edit just wasn't quite mad enough! One for Sliders Sunday :-)

I'll delete one or the other - probably...

Note: In December 2019, I discovered that my lens had been incorrectly reassembled by a previous owner with the rear element reversed. This made a quite pleasant soft focus lens but my early shots are not representative of it's true performance. Correctly assembled, it provides far better IQ.

With the weather lousy, I've spent an inordinate amount of time pretending to be an artist and fiddling w/flowers after the fashion of O'Keeffe. In large part, it has become an exercise in frustration as each image yields the potential of 4-5 different perspectives from the same shot...and I cannot decide which I prefer, continuing to fiddle and becoming even more confused while cropping my brain away.

This, by the way, is not one of those images. While it is "big" and shows the variation possibilities, it does not convey the conceptual "brush strokes" I am hoping to suggest. That series to follow...at some point...maybe...;-)

Denver & Rio Grande Western eastbound Rio Grande Zephyr with a D&RGW unit coal train operating in the same direction being led by a GP40-2 locomotive # 3096 along with two additional GP40-2 engines at a three track main line location in Utah, Summer 1980. The unit coal train is most likely operating on a branch line that will soon join the main line. Notice on the front porch steps of the lead GP40-2 locomotive that an employee is standing there, so this makes me believe that this is a branch line with a connecting switch to the main line that must be operated by the employee.

SOOC

On Thursday I was with Pipa and Pepe Ros in Los ojos del Luchena. I knew there were Zygonys torridus flying but even in my dreams I could not have come close to reality. A crowd!!

As catching them on the fly is not my thing, I rode 100 but on the way I met this male who made the same round trip at the height of my head. So I tried it and out of ten shots, 2 came into the frame and relatively focused.

This one has an 18% trim.

Same as my last post sometimes things fall into place, the weather, the location, the loco, the company and along comes the 1015 Sheringham to Holt service on route towards Weybourne.

the same lobster, a whole new story. this moody take was captured with the voigtländer nokton f/1, embracing the beauty of low light to create an intimate, almost candlelit atmosphere. the lobster remains the star, its vibrant colors glowing against the soft shadows, paired perfectly with its golden potato companions.

this is part two of a lens experiment—if you missed the sony gm II 85mm f/1.4 version of this shot, be sure to check out the previous post. same dish, two lenses, two perspectives. now it’s your turn: which one captures the moment best?

janina’s in puerto portals delivers more than just lobster—it’s a dining experience. if you’re ever in mallorca, you owe it to yourself to try it.

Same day, but another train. TDX 1026 is back up to the station of Montmorency, for preparing this day on the Charlevoix Subdivision, MP 6.

the same strange feeling

every morning

every time I open my eyes and I cannot see...

Same problem that I’ve had on previous low light pictures. Some devices (like my low cost Samsung galaxy) display details in black zones, like brush strokes that are not supposed to be seen. I still haven’t found a solution yet, so any help would be welcome !

Thanks for visiting !

This is the view on the other side of the same place as in the previous photo. Quite an iconic view. I loved it there, so many interesting angles to play around. That day we had to learn that in Iceland you have to be extra careful at all times, as one guy lost his camera in a wave, and another one fell twice by hopping on the rocks like a bunny. Luckily nobody got seriously hurt. Really wish I can come back there someday...

EH302 (YX18KXP) on London General's N155 to Morden, and EH178 (YY67URG) on London Central's 171 to Bellingham, Catford Bus Garage.

Same as the other, presented in monochrome.

A place lost in the high Jura valleys. A place for exhibitions, here some ceramics called "bowls of wind". I loved the name.

"In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins, not through strength but by perseverance." H. Jackson Brown.

Something I love about tropical countries is the ease of getting to incredible waterfalls located in the middle of the rainforest. Taking a path to a waterfall always causes me great expectation, because although you have read about the route, you never really know when these prodigious waterfalls will appear and leave you speechless.

On my trip to the Philippines, I was lucky to visit the Kabigan Falls, which can be reached by a path that the locals have built (with wooden bridges spanning the river), to facilitate the access to the visitors, to whom they act as guides for a small contribution. This is positive because it is easier to reach the main waterfall, but at the same time it makes that the waterfalls receive such amount of people that in the high season the time that you can remain in them is limited. In my case, I visited the waterfalls during the rainy season, so there was no time limit, but there were a lot of people taking a bath in the natural pond created by the waterfall.

For several minutes and after searching and searching, I was unable to find an interesting composition, the riot of the people destroyed the peace that is needed in this type of locations to create a charming image. At times I thought about throwing in the towel and leave the place without any good picture. The falls were amazing but it did not seem like the right time to photograph them. Maybe in the future I could return at dawn and find them without people. But when I was about to tell my girlfriend to leave, I saw the possibility of crossing the stream and then go under some rocks, covering most people with them. Placing the tripod where it was was not easy, and getting there with my feet covered by water and leaves (who knows what nice animals could be under them) less still. But I was able to achieve this composition that isolated me from the crowd, I just had to wait to capture some images without anyone bathing under the waterfall and finally perseverance paid me off.

Everyone is a little bit different, but we are all the same!

Same friend as the last, She is one of the few in who's hands I feel truly safe. We don't share the relationship we once did, but knowing that she is forever there for me is what makes me know that I am forever safe with her.

And I would not trade that trust and friendship for anything in this world.

"We Have Never Met" project puts myself and another photographer together from anywhere in the world as we shoot one roll of the same film together...kind of....at a distance anyway. And then combining the effort into a tangible photowalk of sorts."

This time it is with my friend Erik Mathy from San Francisco. The entire series will be on Behance soon.
