The Monastery at Lébény was established between 1199 and 1203, by a nobleman, for private worship. The complex was dedicated to the Apostle Saint James the Great. Though the existing charter for approving the donations and construction was signed by Andreas II (1208), one of the walls of the church had “1206” engraved in them, which may indicate that the church was already built at that time. It is also mentioned in the RegestrumVaradiense (an important language memorial), which was made in the late cathedral chapter of the present Oradea (Nagyvárad) in the 13th century. The monastery of Lébény was attacked and burnt down several times; the first by Mongols, then the second by King Ottokar I of Bohemia; and thereafter by the Turks, which was probably in 1529 and definitely in 1683. The monastery was taken back from the Turks by the arch-abbot of Pannonhalma in 1540. He named a new abbot, though the title only existed on paper for a little bit longer than two decades. In 1563 the monastery was burnt down again for the third time and was left devoured. Presently, the only part of the complex that is still standing is the iconic three-nave Romanesque church in the middle of Lébény village. This church is one of the most important Romanesque style buildings of Hungary, which was most probably restored in the 17th century by the Jesuits, and it was the first ever Hungarian monument that was restored in the second half of the 19th century. In addition, the Romanesque church is also operating as a parish of the village.
Saint Michael’s Cathedral of Alba Iulia was built between 1247 and 1291, which makes it contemporary to the famous Notre Dame of Paris. Furthermore, it appears that a great French architect, Villard de Honnecourt, contributed to its design. In addition to being the oldest and the longest cathedral in Romania (at 89.16 m measured along its axis), it is also considered the most important monument of Romanesque architecture in Transylvania.
The site is registered in the National Archaeological Repertory of Romania.
A jewel among churches - the wooden Church of St. St. Nicholas is one of the oldest and most beautiful wooden churches in Slovakia. The three-part log building with a richly ornamented shingled roof and three towers was built in 1658. In 2008 it was entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List together with seven other wooden churches from the area of Slovak Carpathians.
The sacral monument is a part of a unique complex located in the center of Bodružal in the Svidník district. In addition to the temple, it also consists of a separate bell tower, an adjacent cemetery and a wooden fence with a shingled roof and an entrance gate covered by a conical roof.
The three church towers symbolizing the Holy Trinity will catch your attention for sure. The highest tower houses the bells, which were used for military purposes at the beginning of the World War I - the inhabitants of the village replaced them in the second half of the 1920s. The oldest preserved bell features the inscription “1759”.

ENG: You cann see the reconstructed evangelic St. Nikolai church from 1837 in Potsdam at the Old Market Square. The listed sacral building was designed by the architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Ludwig Persius and Friedrich August Stüler. A special feature is the tambour dome of the 77 metre high building, which rises far above the roofs of the city and was erected between 1843 and 1850.
Towards the end of the Second World War, the sacred building was struck during the air raid on Potsdam and subsequently severely damaged by Soviet artillery fire. After many years of reconstruction, the church of the Evangelical Church of St. Nicholas in Potsdam was consecrated again in 1981 and has been open to visitors daily ever since. In addition to church services, concerts are also held in the Nikolaikirche.

Church of st. Mary Magdalene in Dukla is one of the most valuable Polish rococo churches.
It was built as a gothic one, around 1461, with a brick chancel and a wooden nave. When in 1738 there was a fire in the city, the nave burned down entirely, and the chancel became the basis for the reconstruction of the temple.
The owner of Dukla and the Grand Marshal of the Crown, Józef Wandalin Mniszech, the same one who donated the land for the Bernardine monastery, undertook it. The temple was given a baroque appearance, but another fire and the death of Józef Vandalin in 1747 interrupted the work. They were continued in 1764 by the son of the marshal, Jerzy August Mniszech, supported by his wife, Maria Amalia. It was then that the church's interior acquired a rococo interior and fittings that have survived to this day.

Church of St. John of Dukla and Monastery of Bernadine monks - the church with two towers was built between 1761 and 1764 in the late baroque style. The temple was extended from 1890 to 1902 when a chapel of St. John of Dukla was built and the main nave was enlarged. Also monastery building was added. The interior dates back to the turn of the 19th century. The paintings of Tadeusz Popiel present scenes from life of St. John of Dukla. There is a silver coffin with relics of St. John. Pope John Paul II came to Dukla on 9th of August, a day before the canonization event and he spent a night in the monastery
Slovak early Baroque Franciscan monastic church dating back to the late 14th century. Currently the only dual-towered Franciscan church in Slovakia.
The site of the Church of St. Joseph has been sacred for centuries. Originally, a Gothic church dedicated to the Holy Trinity occupied this location. In 1380, the Carmelite brothers constructed a new church, maintaining the dedication to the Holy Trinity. However, during the Reformation, the Carmelites departed, and the church fell under municipal control, serving various secular purposes.
In 1661, Emperor Leopold I granted the church and its accompanying monastery to the Franciscan brothers, marking a new chapter in its history. Despite resistance from the Protestant city council, the Franciscans took possession in 1671, thanks to the intervention of royal forces. This marked the beginning of a significant transformation, supported by local nobility, including Baron František Klobušický.
The Church of St. Joseph underwent extensive reconstruction from 1708 to 1718, led by the Košice builder Ján Tornyossi. The renovations were heavily inspired by the Jesuit Church of the Gesù in Rome, introducing Baroque elements that replaced the original Gothic features. The façade, adorned with stucco ornaments and sculptures by Šimon Griming, presents an impressive display of Baroque artistry.
Inside, the church boasts a stunning altar dedicated to the Holy Family, crafted by František Strecius. This masterpiece features over 40 sculptures, including depictions of the 12-year-old Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph. Although the original altar was lost to a fire in 1870, it was replaced by an illusionistic oil painting by the Franciscan artist Konrád Švestka, capturing the essence of the lost masterpiece.

Rottweil is the oldest town in Baden–Württemberg. The main Catholic church is the Holy Cross Minster.
Built in the 13th century as a branch church of the mother church of St. Pelagius in Romanesque style, it became the main Catholic church of Rottweil in the 15th century.
In the 14th century, a high Gothic choir was added, the nave was completed at the end of the 16th century in the late Gothic style.
The high altar cross is attributed to the workshop around Veit Stoß.
