The Church of St. Lawrence in Březina is originally a gothic sacral building standing in a cemetery on the outskirts of the village of Březina in the Mladá Boleslav region. The church is an important Gothic monument of the central Pojizera region. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The church dates from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century and partly modernized.
Ruins of a medieval fortified church are located above the village of Lúčka, situated at the border of the Slovenské rudohorie mountain range and the national park of Slovenský kras. The village had been known since 1409 as part of the Turňa Castle Estate donated to Pál Besen by King Sigismund.
According to the testimony provided by the local church, however, the village dates back to at least the half of the 13th century. The church itself was built as an early-Gothic church of the Gemer style. In the first half of the 15th century, it was surrounded by a defensive stone wall with a watchtower situated in the front. The small fortress was captured by Jan Jiskra’s troopsand is commonly called the Hussite church by the locals. Only the external walls of the church and the considerably lowered defensive wall with the tower that later on served as a belfry have been preserved up to the present. The quadratic tower used to have two floors in the past, with three windows on the first floor and three loopholes on the ground floor that served to watch the surroundings and to protect the fortress from three sides: the west, the south, and the east. The top of the slope upon which the church was built provided for the natural protection from the north.
The area where the church stands counts among the ecologically cleanest territories in Slovakia. It provides for exceptionally good conditions for recreationin a peaceful natural setting and for short walks in the basin of the Čremošná, to the lake of Lúčka, as well as to the surrounding beech and fir forests. Moreover, the unique natural reserve of Zádielska dolina is located in close distance, lined with plateaux where traces of fortified prehistoric settlements were confirmed by archaeological surveys.

The Church of St George in Sofia, behind the Sheraton Hotel. Built by the Romans in the 4th century red brick rotunda is the oldest building in Sofia.

The pride not only of Šariš, but also of the whole of Slovakia is the ancient town of BARDEJOV, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Slovak towns. It was included in the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage List in 2000. Bardejov has also a fitting nickname – “the most gothic town in Slovakia”.
The picturesque square with colorful burgher houses, the majestic Basilica Minor of St. Egidius, the Jewish suburb, the historic town hall, the Executioner's House, well-preserved city walls with bastions ... A huge number of valuable and remarkable monuments in a relatively small area. The city center is formed by the Town Hall Square surrounded on three sides by 46 burgher houses on narrow medieval plots. In the middle stands the Basilica Minor of St. Egidius, in front of which is located the original pair of bells Ján and Urban. The bells were originally placed in the bell tower of the Basilica’s tower. The old bells got damaged over time, so they were replaced by new castings. The Basilica of St. Egidius was built in the middle of the 14th century and contains a unique collection of 11 late Gothic winged altars. Feeling like climbing a flight of stairs? The tower of the basilica offers the most beautiful views of the city.

Berlin, Skyline, Dom, Panorama, 2015
Wolfegg is about 15 km from Weingarten. There you will find the parish church of St. Catherine, built by Johann Georg Fischer from Füssen between 1733 and 1736 as a representative building for the Wolfegg Canonry. The stucco was created by the Wessobrunner stucco artist Johannes Schütz. The large frescoes were painted by Franz Joseph Spiegler (who was also a fresco painter in Zwiefalten). Jacob Hör, a student of Gabler, made the organ. It is the only instrument of his that has survived.
The ceiling fresco, which stretches across the entire nave, is striking. It shows a secular theme, the duel between Antonio di Sanseverino and Count Johannes von Sonnenberg from 1487.

The Temple of Athena in Paestum, Italy, was built around 500 BC. The architecture is partly in the Ionic style and partly early Doric. Three medieval Christian tombs in the floor show that the temple was used for some time as a Christian church.
Paestum was a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in southern Italy.
Since 1998 Paestum is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Roman Catholic wooden church of St. Francis of Assisi, made of red spruce, was built at the end of the 15th century in the Gothic style. It is situated on a small elevation in the centre of the village of Hervartov in the Bardejov district. Since 2008 it has been included in the list of UNESCO monuments.
It is the oldest and one of the best preserved wooden churches in Slovakia. The church is enclosed by a stone wall with pilasters, which gives visitors the impression of a small fortress. The sacral building consists of a polygonal sanctuary, a nave, a sacristy and an undercroft, which has been modified to create a granary. The church also includes a bell tower.
While the exterior of the oldest wooden church on the Slovak side of the Carpathian Mountains has remained unchanged, the interior has undergone several modifications due to the Reformation, the Recatholization and the Baroque style. Surface compositions of geometric shapes as well as scenes from the lives of saints or moral scenes make up the rich decoration of the interior walls of the Hervart church.
The Monastery at Lébény was established between 1199 and 1203, by a nobleman, for private worship. The complex was dedicated to the Apostle Saint James the Great. Though the existing charter for approving the donations and construction was signed by Andreas II (1208), one of the walls of the church had “1206” engraved in them, which may indicate that the church was already built at that time. It is also mentioned in the RegestrumVaradiense (an important language memorial), which was made in the late cathedral chapter of the present Oradea (Nagyvárad) in the 13th century. The monastery of Lébény was attacked and burnt down several times; the first by Mongols, then the second by King Ottokar I of Bohemia; and thereafter by the Turks, which was probably in 1529 and definitely in 1683. The monastery was taken back from the Turks by the arch-abbot of Pannonhalma in 1540. He named a new abbot, though the title only existed on paper for a little bit longer than two decades. In 1563 the monastery was burnt down again for the third time and was left devoured. Presently, the only part of the complex that is still standing is the iconic three-nave Romanesque church in the middle of Lébény village. This church is one of the most important Romanesque style buildings of Hungary, which was most probably restored in the 17th century by the Jesuits, and it was the first ever Hungarian monument that was restored in the second half of the 19th century. In addition, the Romanesque church is also operating as a parish of the village.
The Basilica was built next to the ancient church of San Giorgio, the site of the first burial of both Saint Francis in 1226 and Saint Clare in 1253.
The construction of the Basilica and the Monastery next to it began in 1257, two years after the canonization of Clare. The body of the Saint was placed under the high altar on 3 October 1260. The solemn consecration of the Basilica was celebrated in 1265.
The typical facade, like the whole basilical complex, is embellished on the outside with alternating strips of white and pink stone from Subasio. Three large arches built at the end of 1300 are visible to the left of the building. The interior of the Basilica, which once had to be entirely frescoed, is linear and clear in its Gothic structure with a Latin cross and a single nave ending in a transept with a polygonal apse.

The monastery of the Benedictine Order at Pannonhalma was founded in 996 in Western Hungary and had a major role in the diffusion of Christianity in medieval Central Europe. The monastery shows a stratification of different architectural styles and various buildings.
Among these buildings: a school (the first ever school founded in the country), the monastic complex – home to the monks whose life is still based on St. Benedict’s Rule ‘Ora et labora’ -, the tourist welcome points and hospitality facilities, the Chapel of Our Lady, the Millennium Chapel and the botanical and herbal gardens.

Freiburg Minster (German: Freiburger Münster or Münster Unserer Lieben Frau) is the cathedral of Freiburg im Breisgau, southwest Germany. The last duke of Zähringen had started the building around 1200 in romanesque style. The construction continued in 1230 in Gothic style. The minster was partly built on the foundations of an original church that had been there from the beginning of Freiburg, in 1120.
It is the only Gothic church tower in Germany that was completed in the Middle Ages (1330), and miraculously, has lasted until the present, surviving the bombing raids of November 1944, which destroyed all of the houses on the west and north side of the market.
