Designed and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, this building and the 30 others at Bandelier National Monument follow the guiding architectural principles of the National Park Service Rustic style. This is one of my favourite styles of architecture because it is designed to minimize the visual interruption of the landscape, harmonize with it's natural surroundings, and still provide safety and warmth. The wooden beams here are made of Juniper and collected from areas surrounding the visitor complex.

This is one of the first stamps I ever bought, and it is still one of my favorites--so cute! So, I made another little corner bookmark featuring the cute little guy and had to show it to you --in honor of seeing my first robin of the season today!

We just found this amazing light fixture made from reclaimed wood beam with a beautiful weathered grey patina and rusted chain for hanging. The lamps used are LED that can provide an abundant amount of light.
We love this light fixture that could be a great piece over your counter, dinning table, pool table, bar or work area for a rustic ambiance!

wish i could go and spend lots and lots of time here .... some day maybe.
I was stuck on the theme of "rustic" for my project 52 photo, so I fell behind in my duties again. I couldn't find the so-called classic rustic here in the city. Then I noticed the fence outside DARE2mansion.com today and declared it a winner. Blocks of wood connected by wire form a fence decoration. The ones nearest the viewer are painted on a few sides. The next section over is not painted at all. I liked how chunks of wood with a bit of patina were turning an ordinary fence function into something attractive to look at. I also had fun taking the photo at an angle that let the wood blocks get all the attention.

I really love the rusty, crusty look of these headpins.

The pewter tea pot is from a local charity shop. All the pottery is by Jan Bunyan, who is a fine English potter. We love her rustic feel and strong colours and we are collecting them little by little... The rug is from a street market in Amsterdam. The tomatoes are from the greengrocer in Hinchley Wood, Surrey !!
Should you need to roll it somewhere in a straight line from its current location, have no fear. No, we're not really sure about that part either. But it looks cool, dammit, and that's enough for us!

This charming day-bed is like no other we have seen in Singapore. The hand-sewn and hand-tufted top contrast with the elegant French cushions. Length 164cm, depth 71cm, height 50cm.
I took the plunge and bought a microscope. Although it's mainly backlit microbial subjects I've been exploring so far, I've found it works well for this sort of thing too. This is a live subject - a common rustic moth (Mesapamea secalis) from my garden. Although the image quality of the microscope lenses is lower than the Canon MP-E (edge softness and distortion, and a lot more chromatic aberration), they allow you to go closer, and focus stacking is easier as fine focus control is much easier, and the setup more stable.
