"The Brussels Marathon is a tough marathon with a profile that makes it most suitable for serious runners. There is also a less insane half marathon.

Runners start from Cinquantenaire Park in the centre of Brussels and the finish line is at Grand-Place. Brussels isn't exactly the prettiest city in Europe, so there aren't always fantastic sites to see along the way. However the race passes through many of the greener parts of the city as well as the woods and out to the beautiful Africa Museum before pointing runners back to the city."

I've Photoshopped the title out so it can be appreciated as a piece of art in itself rather better. Personally, I think this is miles better than the original US film poster. The more recent Final Cut artwork (by the same artist as this piece) was a big improvement, but this is still my favourite.

This was the Blade Runner novelisation cover and I believe it was also maybe used for some of the original posters in some territories. It's by Drew Struzan.

Great Ireland Run 2013 - Elite Women and Irish Female 10KM Championship 2013 by Peter Mooney

The SPAR Great Ireland Run 2013 was held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 14th April 2013 at 13:10 and 13:30 respectively. The Great Ireland Run is now probably the largest 10KM running event in Ireland. The race also incorporates the AAI National 10km Championships. This category is for club athletes in Ireland only. However, there is also the main field race where anyone, regardless of being with an athletic club or not, can enter and race. The elite women and club women's race started at 13:10 whilst the male club and main field event started at 13:30. The race starts on Chesterfield Avenue and takes a clockwise route - first over to the Blackhorse Avenue sid of the park, crossing Chesterfield avenue again. The race then descends down the Kyber pass before the runners must take the challenge of the famous S-Bends on the Chapelizod side including a steep climb at 7KM. Finally the race winds its way around the Furry Glen, before finishing very close to the starting point of the race.

These photographs are taken at the 7 KM marker on Chapelizod Hill. They are from the time period 13:35 (leading elite women) until all waves have passed this point (approximately 14:42). There are no start or finish line photographs.

I really enjoyed taking these photographs. It is the first time in a long time where I have been able to photograph a race I was not participating in. It was a really great experience. Despite the tough course and the horrible head winds I got so many nods and "hellos" from hundreds of runners I knew there and from thousands of others I have yet to get to know ;-) It is a really great event.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: Approximately 10,000 people

Weather: Dry, cold, with very strong head wind

Course: Completely traffic free course - all on excellent tarmac roads. The course is undulating from 4KM to about 9KM giving a real test of 10KM strength.

Refreshments: No refreshments - goody bags provided to all participants.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Thanks to Julie (julielou41) I made a Modern Hexies Runner. I had always thought that the hexies would be much to fiddly for me. But then Julie sent me a couple of ready made hexies in a swap and they were sooo pretty! At first I didn't know what to do with them and played with them on my work table until I realized I have to make some more. So I started off and was quite amazed at how much fun they were. Actually I had to force myself to stop because there were other projects that needed to be finished too. I am totally in love with my hexies runner and thank you Julie for starting me off. Without you I would probably never have made hexies! And these won't be my last that's for sure!
