Grooming is difficult on a windy day.

I had never seen the headdress ruffled like this before, or maybe I just never paid attention.

For ORANGE WEEK.

Orange is the colour between red and yellow on the spectrum of light, and in the traditional colour wheel used by painters. Its name is derived from the fruit orange.

In Europe and America orange is commonly associated with amusement, the unconventional, extroverts, warmth, fire, energy, activity, danger, taste and aroma, the autumn season, and Protestantism.

In Asia it is an important symbolic colour of Buddhism and Hinduism.

The colour orange is named after the appearance of the ripe orange fruit.

The word comes from the Old French orenge, from the old term for the fruit, pomme d'orenge. The French word, in turn, comes from the Italian arancia, based on Arabic nāranj, derived from the Sanskrit naranga. The first recorded use of orange as a colour name in English was in 1512. Before it was yellow red.

The orange colour of carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, oranges, and many other fruits and vegetables comes from carotenes, a type of photosynthetic pigment.

These pigments convert the light energy that the plants absorb from the sun into chemical energy for the plants' growth.

A bit of brightness on another grey and windy day.

I love Ranunculus, densely layered, and this bloom opened beautifully, not always evident, their stems are extremely delicate and do tend to just collapse before the bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom...

With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *)

Not often I see the male Hooded Merganser looking anything but perfect.

I was hoping the Great Blue Heron would catch something but it went into a frenzy of ruffling its feathers. Very cool to watch!
