A beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet. The rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. Six taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are now treated as separate species

So rich in tones, for years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light? Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? LOL.

I love Ranunculus, especially the red ones, rare, less densely layered, however this bloom opened beautifully, not always evident, their stems are extremely delicate and do tend to just collapse before the bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom...

I just loved the light on the Oystercatchers before 6:30 am and 7:30 pm until sunset in the summer.

A female Ruff (Reeve), a recent rare visitor from Eurasia, has been seen over the past week at Renews, NL

This species overwinters in Africa, but some also do so in the Caribbean.

I have been enjoying the zinnias that I planted this year. Not only are they beautiful, hardy, and butterfly magnets, they are also not on the menu of the deer that eat everything else in my garden!

Great Blue Heron

From Alderleaf Wilderness College

Although herons are endothermic - or “warm-blooded” - they can’t sweat or shiver the way we can. Instead, they can flutter their throat when too hot, not unlike a dog panting on a hot day. They can also use the extra warmth of the sun by exposing as much of their body to the sun as they can. Herons will fluff up their feathers on a cold day to help trap in their body heat.

Another image from the archives - it's quite a difference when a bird, like this Great Egret, goes from smooth feathers to a very ruffled appearance as in this image. This Great Egret was hunting with little success at the edge of this marsh when it decided to fluff up a bit. I had to laugh a bit at the difference it made!

Not a smooth day for anyone. One photo a day. (72/366) -- March 12, 2020

A bit breezy in the garden for this Robin - Bartley Green, Birmingham UK 9th December 2019.

These birds are natives of Africa and have been introduced to many countries, particularly in the Caribbean. Somehow a small population has established itself in Southern California and they seem to be doing quite well based on the fact that they can be seen in several different areas of the state.

Juvenile female Kingfisher, looking slight disheveled - which I prefer - having just emerged from the water and polished off a Stickleback.
