Both Elsie and Roxy are doing gymnastics and aerial this year. Elsie is doing PE as an O level subject. Roxy takes affter Elsie in treating all the movements very seriously - and like Elsie, she is graceful too.

Leeton, NSW

This heritage listed art deco theatre was opened on 7 April 1930 purely for use as a cinema. In 1933 a stage was added and it was officially opened by Australia's most famous and internationally celebrated singer of that time, Gladys Moncrief, known affectionately as "Our Glad".

Since 1933 the theatre has operated continuously providing both film and live entertainment to residents of Leeton and the surrounding area. The Roxy film screen is one of the largest roll-up mechanized screens in Australia measuring approximately 16 metres wide by 8 metres high.

just a quick round up of photos from yesterday. Out this evening at Frances' 80th birthday celebration . . . back tomorrow evening

Whe Elsie was 7, just before Roxy was born I created an album which was a seleciion of photos of her first seven years. This is one I have compiled for Roxy. Lockdown during covid has affected the number - but her character and exuberance all shine through!

Roxy is a Harry Potter fan because - as she told Gramps - the stories are full of imagination!

I took a few pics of Roxy after school cuddling Biscuit her cuddly dog, but she was tired and she looked it. This was taken after Peter's cottage pie and Abby's apple and balckberry crumble which must have provided a burst of energy. I don't think i'd recommend doing this after a meal, but it had no ill effects!

We are going to Whitstable tomorrow for a few days - to stay in one of the fisherman's huts and see friends.

Christopher seems to be pretty stable in Cirencester rehab ward - doing physiotherapy - I think he'll be there for a couple of weeks or so. Today he was walking with a frame with two people helping him, but it was good news he was off the hoist. I think lack of confidence as much as building muscle tone will be the major tasks. . . . back soon

we went to east London yesterday to celebrate belatedly with Roxy. We had been steered towards a new movable Barbie with accesories - something I would have to be steered towards as I don't like dolls, Barbies, clowns etc . . . but do like animals and bears like Edward. However, back to Roxy, she was very pleased and because the accesories were seaside oriented she put her bikini on and got in the tin tub in the garden to play with them. Sit with me, Grangran - I don't want to be on my own.

Someone left her roxy sandal last night. I wonder why she was in a hurry?...

I am current;y mastering a new Ipad which is replacing the one I have been using since 2013 - an old faithful friend - since I read The Guardian on it, watch the news and other tv on it, listen to talking books on it, take some photos with it, especially during lockdown on Facetime, do my brother's shopping on it, and ours, use it for all sorts of information - it has become a bit of lifeline since my eyesight has worsened and it is very user friendly since I am able to enlargen the print size. But just before lockdown the on/off button cracked which was a bit worrying, but it has been fine over the two lockdowns . . . and then, last week, Siri went mad . . . popping up to interrupt everything literally all the time. I managed to outfox it, by getting into settings before an interruption and turning Siri off . . . but the lingering thought remains that the on/off button and Siri are closely connected and maybe this was the beginning of the end and it was time time to get a new one.

And now I have a new one and I am just hopeless trying to master all the new things. I have a session booked with an Apple operative tomorrow afternoon - Peter is going to sit in in case he starts talking in language I don't understand! Give me a trowel any day!!

Flickr has set this as restricted. I really don't know why.

I have been in touch with the powers that be, and have changed this picture back to safe.

Roxy seems enthusiastic about her introduction to food and new tastes . . . and I was reminded of Elsie who was capable of smearing her face, hands, clothes and the kitchen and be delighted (see below) . . . Roxy is much younger and still quite delicate!

The light was poor and neither Roxy nor I are very good at being absolutely still. So this is as good as it got.

Another of Roxys puppies. Six weeks, I believe?

This one we may get to keep :D

Elsie and Roxy, after my birthday meal yesterday. We went to Dark Horse in Olympic East Village and had a great Italian meal. Thank you, Ben. Afterwards the girls climbed the steep bank outside and rolled (well, Elsie did!)

Ben and Abby were as shell shocked as we were about the EU referendum result, as were my women's group in the afternoon. Ridiculously, but endearingly, there is a campaign going round to rescue London, to petition Sadiq Khan to make London a separate state still in the EU!

My abiding hopes are that we shall remain diverse and not become narrow and nationalistic, and that the economy will remain stable. I feel for our young people - many of whom voted to stay in and whose future has been cruelly changed. We had coffee with our Polish neighbours last Sunday morning - this Sunday morning it will be difficult to look them in the eye (though we will, of course) - how they must feel the uncertainty of this vote. I try not to blame Cameron, who did not have to have a referendum, but he did, because he was afraid of UKIP and the Tory eurosceptics (and they have now won!) - but he has taken us out of Europe and he is going to run away from the consequences. He may well be the cause of Scotland leaving the UK. This is his legacy. Shame on him!

Catch up in progress

from earlier in the month.

Peter took Stan back to east London this morning. I'm just going to put this towel and car rug back in the boot of the car, I said. No, no, he said - you mustn't go into the boot. Why not? You mustn't, he said. No, you mustn't. So I opened the boot . . . and in it was a small rocking horse. What's this? I asked. I found it, he said. Found it? Where? On the pavement up the road. Are you sure it doesn't belong to anyone? No, no it was out to be taken. I think it's a bit young for Roxy, I said.

On arrival, Roxy took one look at the horse and said - oh, it's what I've always wanted. Just shows how much I know. It will keep her occupied for a couple of hours, said Abby sagely, and it can always go out the front here for someone else to take . . .

At least I can say for certain that there wasn't a body in the boot, and I am assured that the horse wasn't tied to a fence!

It wasn't until I was looking through the fuzzy pictures from facetime yesterday that it hit me how sad I feel. I haven't seen the Bears (apart from Ben on a flypast before Christmas) since September. Yesterday the lapatop was set up in Roxy's bedroom and Roxy showed me different things, was in turn a ballerina and horse rider . . .

and then she got into bed and asked me to tell her a story . . .

we picked up Roxy from school (Elsie has a two week half term and she was staying with a friend). Roxy decided she'd like her photo taken doing aerial splits on the equipement in the garden. I did warn her that her school uniform was revealing flying skirt and knickers . . . thus they will not be appearing here. Stella was quite accommodting as she jumped about tugging on Roxy's skirt, although Roxy told her to stop!

A great day for Roxy, but a sad day for the nursery. Snowberry Nursery is a Surestart nursery, purpose built and wonderfully equipped with great staff, but due to underfunding it is due to close next week. Elsie went there in 2010 when the family moved to the area. It is sad to see how the government's austerity and cuts have affected so many aspects of our lives.

On Monday Ben had the day off work . .. and this is why I wanted to revisit those photos, because it was surreal. Gramps, Elsie and I were icing The Cake, Abby was wrapping presents and Ben had Roxy who appeared to be flying around the scene . . . and. . . Ben was not making faces at the camera - for once!

Today I picked up Elsie from school and we are now babysitting. Friday is Christmas meal day with my women's group and Saturday the family are all coming over for an evening meal . . . to celebrate Peter's birthday early because of jury service, which I am no longer doing!

So this means I shall be doing a major catch up next week . . .

Roxy needed a little persuading to have her photo taken - she took me out into the garden which was fortuitous because it started to rain and we were able to bring the washing in, even before Abby yelled from the loft that it was raining! And so we landed up in the kitchen and then by the front door. She was her usual whirlwind self.

press L for a better view ;)
