Ben, Abby, Elsie, Roxy and Stan came over for lunch today. Roxy is learning words at an amazing speed. Needing a word in between hot and cold . . . along came' warm' which is quite a difficult concept for an eighteen month old, I think.
I made a pudding cake for dessert. . . with almonds, lemon and raspberries - I have never made anything before that has been eaten with such gusto - naturally Roxy ended up with raspberry in her hair and cake all over her clothes . . .

Roxy seemed to have lost her volume control today . . . she was just loud! She had been to baby rhyme time in the library this morning, so perhaps that had something to do with it . . . or maybe she was just practising for some unknown career, or maybe her wonderfully huge personality just needed to be filled with exuberance .. .

Ben, Abby, Elsie, Roxy and Stanarrived back home on Saturday - yesterday was our first visit. Elsie had new shoes which I hope to post later, and here is Roxy with a sun tan

I have been feeling guilty not showcasing Roxy, my sweet hound mix, quite enough on flickr. Josie makes frequent appearances because I chose her to use for the 52 Weeks for Dogs group, but Roxy is extremely special to me to. All of my dogs are special to me, but in different ways.
Roxy came into my life about 8.5 years ago. My sister and I were wasting a little bit of time and decided to go to the pet supply store. That day they had brought in some puppies from the local humane society. I had absolutely no intentions of getting a dog. I was 18 at the time, in college, and living in an apartment with my older sister. But as soon as I walked up to this little black and tan puppy with huge floppy ears, my heart was just stolen. At that time I really didn't have any money and relied solely on my parents. I called up my father and begged and begged him to come to the pet store and see this cute little puppy. I was not leaving the store without her. And I didn't. My dad finally caved in and adopted her for me.
At that particular point of my life, I was not in a very good place emotionally. I was in a bad relationship which seemed to make everything else fall apart. I think Roxy was brought into my life for a reason - she helped "rescue me" and I have called her my Angel ever since. That seems like forever ago- so much has changed in our lives, and she has been with me every step of the way. We have a very close bond - my family comments on how in tune we are with each other. This may sound silly to some, but some of you out there will understand :)

Roxy stayed the night with us and slept through . . . and I slept hardly a wink! She was a great guest.
I don't know what has happened to Corel, butuall my settings have changed . . . maybe a move to make me update, so I am having trouble processing photos . . .
tomorrow we are going to east London, as Abby flies out to Bangkok for work - a difficult job where she as a designer in London has had to juggle makers of her costumes across the other side of the world. So we are over in east London lending a helping hand for an afternoon/evening to Rachel and Ben. Hope Elsie will be well this week and up for a photo . . . last week she was unwell.

By the time we sat down for a drink before the meal, calm had been restored to the east London household. Roxy, who has just started at nursery and who seemingly has no problems with it . . . is exerting her new found independence at home, which makes the adults smile (or sigh). Here we have an endearing little tear on a grubby little face . . .

this morning I had a long facetime session with the east London contingency! Abby was using her IPhone and I was using my IPad and took some photos. Imagine taking photos from 13 miles away.
Abby and girls were in the garden, and it was the next best thing to watch them for about an hour and a half playing and Abby and i chatted - what to do about the fox who is wrecking her garden. Has anyone any tips how to prevent him entering?

I am not a fan of Facetime but was happy to chat to Roxy for 90 minutes yesterday as she is stuck at home with chicken pox. She has 50 spots she tells me, but so far only a few on her face, on her forehead.
She set Abby's laptop up on her bed and literally pushed Abby out of the room and so she chatted, Edward and Wolfie joined in and so an awful day was made a little better . . .the awful bits? a lengthy telephone dispute which lasted all morning with Dell - still unresolved - and the cake I had made to take to Earl and Claire's for our table tennis afternoon today went most horribly wrong, and so this morning I went into default mode and made a lemon drizzle traybake!

the interesting thing about looking after a baby is that you want her to laugh. Almost as soon as I entered the room and greeted Roxy, she laughed. And then I spent the rest of my time with her doing my funny songs and tricks and receiving wry smiles for my efforts. Almost as soon as I stopped, she laughed. This either means . . . she is slyly withholding her laugh from her gran, or . . . it means that I am a person worthy of laughter in my natural state . . .

eating blueberries is an art. Roxy picks each berry up with exquisitely dainty fingers and somehow transfers it into her mouth. She then picks up the next one and repeats it. It is only after the sixth one has entered that she opens her mouth to reveal a little nest of unchewed blueberries . . .
of course keeping still for the camera is not possible either . . .

Roxy's reaction to the pandemic is one of wanting to stay close. Apparently on a bus with Elsie and Abby she insisted on holding both their hands. Sunday was her chance to make sure everyone was well vaccinated. Jane reckons she had 29 jabs!

Roxy was busy today playing with her farm, Lego, and Elsie's old camper. I have been pondering whether Elsie would have been into role play by this age . . . and whether my playtime with Roxy will be completely different from that with Elsie. What's this, Grangran? Roxy asked. What's that? Can you take this off, can you put this on? all questions and all to make her own little play world easier. We sang nursery rhymes too.
I didn't pick up Elsie from school as I'd expected, because the school rang Abby to say she would be staying until 5.30pm, if that was all right with Abby as she is auditioning for the summer school play . . . Guess all that role play may come in useful . . . (Elsie's school is an academy with the specialty of performing arts)
This is my new puppy Roxy :) I will be picking her up in a few weeks to come and live with us. She is so so small and so sweet. Everyone will be seeing much more of her.
Coleman, Alberta; the Roxy opened in 1948 and closed in 2003. It is currently undergoing restoration to become a community performing arts center.
